The NCR 5962 Wedge Touch Screen is a Liqu id Crys tal Display-based(LCD) touch screen POS device. The Touch Screen module contains a10.5-inch passive m atrix (DSTN) color LCD or active m atr ix (TFT) colorLCD. It also p rovides the following: Keylock Op tional stand by switch (with NCR 7450 only) A th ree-track ISO Mag netic Stripe Reader (MSR) Speaker External conn ectors for an externa l PC keyboard Decoded external connector for external RS-232 scanner.

The active matrix LCD is not available at all for the N CR 7450workstation. The passive matr ix modu le connects to a 7450 wor kstationusing a w edg e Y-cable. The 7450 workstation d oes not use the WedgeLCD AT or PCI LCD board s.

Wedge ControllerThe Wedge controller consists of a microcontroller an d associatedcircuitry that perm its (via a PC stand ard keyboard interface) theTouch Screen LCD to supp ort the following p eripheral d evices: A three-track MSR Decoded RS-232 Scann er Keylock SpeakerThe controller logically conn ects these dev ices in series with a standardPC keyboard . PCI LCD CardThe PCI LCD card p rovides a PCI bus interface for th e 5952/ 5962 LCDDisplay Prod ucts. It is designed to p lug into a 32-bit 5V slot in astand ard PCI-equ ipped 7452. This card does not contain a 16550 UARTand associated sup p ort logic.

2. Routing the serial cable.

The serial cable can be routed through the m ouse hole or throughthe oval-shaped hole in the base of the touch m oun t.

3. Routing the p arallel cable.

The p arallel cable mu st be routed throu gh the m ouse hole and upthrou gh the p ost. The D-shell connector is routed dow n th roughthe 2.75 in. x 2 in oval-shap ed open ing to on e side of the swivel of the Remote Base mou nt.

4. Moun t the post to the Base and the Mounting Plate with the 5screws provided .

5. Conn ect the serial or p arallel cable conn ector to the h ostwor kstation. Route the cable throu gh the chan nel in the base of theRemote Base.

6. Plug the pow er cable into the pow er source.7. Turn on the pow er source.

1. Connect the adap ter cable from the adap ter board (LCD or PCI) tothe keyboard connector on the rear panel of the workstation. (The5-PIN connector connects to the adap ter board . The 6-PIN

Powering UpThis section describes how to pow er up th e workstation and the initialcheckou t procedu res after all hard ware has been installed .

Note: No u nit setup is required at installation un less the configurationmust be chan ged from factory d efau lts. The Wedge Support Disk (LPING370-0701-0000) permits configuration of the operational parameters inthe Wedge.

Power Up1. Plug the AC Power Cord into an AC p ower sour ce.

2. Turn the keylock to the Ex position.

3. Power on the workstation.

Powering Up the Workstation after Replacing the PCI LCDBoard

If you are insta lling a 5962 after rep lacing the PCI LCD board with aservice board , you m ay need to change the switch settings to set thepan el display on the new board. Otherwise, you may encounter p oord isplay resu lts or a blank screen. Refer to th e table called Setting thePanel Select Switch (SW1) earlier in th is chap ter.

Powering Up the Workstation after Replacing the LCD AT Board

If you are installing a 5962 after replacing the LCD AT board with aservice board , you m ay need to up date the VGA BIOS for the newboard . Otherwise, you m ay encoun ter poor d isp lay resu lts. You alsoneed to up d ate switch settings if you are using the LCD AT Board .

Powering Up the Workstation after Replacing the Series 35xxMotherboard

If you are insta lling a 5962 after rep lacing the Series 35xx Moth erboard ,you may need to chang e the switch settings to set the p anel display on

the new board. Otherwise, you m ay encounter poor d isplay results.

Screen Saving FeatureThe display has a time-out function that causes the display to go blank after several minu tes of inactivity.

The screen saving featu re is controlled by N CR p latform softwareintegrated into the 5962 d rivers.

Note: If you r screen saver is active and the keylock is in the Lposition, you m ay need to pu t the keylock into another p osition to

un blank the LCD.

When a key is pressed to return the d isplay from screen saver mod e,the resu lting keystroke is passed to the app lication by d efault.

To discard the keystroke, use the /D op tion with th e CONSOLEW. DOSdriver. Ad d itional inform ation on this driver is included in the 7450Software Users Guide , BST0-2122-21 for more in form ation .

Software Drivers and Utilities

MicroTouch Touchscreen Drivers and UtilitiesA Wedg e with Touch Screen op tion requ ires the MicroTouch TouchScreen Drivers and Utilities. The LPIN includes Touch Screen Drivers,Utilities and Manuals.

The NCR 74xx Base System an d Client 3 rd Party Drivers LPIN D370-1111-0100 includes the software from G370-0525-0000, G370-1289-0000,and G370-0835-0000. This LPIN includ es configuration and calibrat ionu tilities for the MicroTouch tou ch screen for DOS, Win 3.11, Win 95,Win 98, and Win NT.

Note: Do n ot use th e GetSet3 utility w ith the NCR 5962.

For Wind ows 95 and N T environm ents use the Windows StartMenu at : START/PROGRAMS/MICROTOUCH/TOUCHWARE CONTROL

Device InterfacesThis section p rovides inform ation on the d evice interfaces.

Wedge Controller InterfaceThe Wedge consists of a microcontroller an d associated circuitry th atsu pp orts a th ree-track Magnet ic Stripe Reader (MSR), an RS-232

device, and keylock. The Wedg e merges the data into the keyboarddata stream.

The data ar rives at the retail workstation or PC as if someone hadentered it directly throu gh a keyboard . An app lication can u se sp ecialstart and end contro l characters to determ ine that the inform ationactually cam e from the Wedge instead of the external keyboard .

The Wedge a lso controls the operation of the bu ilt-in speaker (not th ePC speaker) and the status LEDs.

Touch Screen InterfaceThe Touch Screen m odu le connects to th e 7453 retail workstation or PCthrou gh th e external conn ector on the N CR Wedge LCD AT board or aPCI LCD board .

The Touch Screen controller stores its configu ration in formation in anon-volat ile RAM (NOVRAM). Therefore, this inform ation is not lostwh en the board loses power.

Analog MSR InterfaceThe analog MSR interface sends da ta to the workstation or PC throu ghthe Wedg e controller. The data is amp lified an d th en formatted by thewedge.

RS-232 Interface

The RS-232 interface allows connection of RS-232 devices such as adecoded laser scann er. The conn ector p rovides th e RS-232comm unications lines and +5V and GROUND. Most scanners d o notrequire an external p ower sup ply. The Wedge read s the scanner dataand places it in the PC keyboard da ta stream.

PS/2 Keyboard InterfaceA PS/ 2-style keyboard connector permits alph anu meric entry and non -touch app lications to be used throug h a stand ard PC keyboard. Youcann ot connect and use a Wed ge Keyboard in th is p ort.

Note: The keylock is not available as a pass-through interface. Youcan only access it th rough the Wedge controller.

Panel OFF/ON SequenceThe instructions for p rogramm ing the LCD pan el OFF/ ON sequ enceare d ifferent for the LCD AT board and the PCI LCD board . Be sure touse the p roper instructions.

Before turn ing th e Panel Off, turn off the v ideo u sing SequencerRegister 1 bit 5 (SR01[S]) in the sam e manner as IBM recommends forthe stan dard VGA. To m ake Video Off more effective, some ad d itional

delay shou ld be included before Panel Off.

By tu rnin g the Video Off via SR01[5], the Sequ encer is no longerrefreshing the screen. This gives the Sequ encer enou gh ban dwid th towork with the Panel Off logic to do an orderly shutd own of the videooutput.

Safety RequirementsCarefully follow these safety requ irements before servicing the TouchScreen.

Warning: The Touch Screen LCD contains hazardous vo ltages andshould only serviced by qualified service personnel.

Warning: Before servicing the equ ipment plug y our safety strapinto a prope r grounding outlet. Failure to do so could damage the

equipment.Caution: Before servicing the Touch Screen, disconnect the AC powercord from the retail workstation or PC to wh ich th e Touch Screen isconnected. Also disconn ect the cables from the PC or w orkstation tothe Touch Screen.

Caution: To p rotect the internal circu itry from d amage, unp lug the

AC power cord and then mom entarily press the power switch ON todrain th e power sup ply capacitance.

Caution: The p ower sup ply cord is used as the m ain disconn ectdevice. Ensure that the socket ou tlet is located / installed n ear theequ ipm ent an d is easily accessible.

1. Spray an amm onia-based glass cleaner on a soft cloth and gentlywip e the touch screen clean.

Warning: Do no t use any other types of cleaners such as vinegar,solv ents, or degreasers. These can damage the screen .

2. Wipe th e screen and edges dry.

3. Allow th e glass and screen edges to comp letely dry before usingthe unit.
