No. 22, 25th July, 2016
Dear Parents,
Exciting news and congratulations go to Ms Sonya Lewis on the safe arrival of baby Leela Rose weighing 8lb on Friday. Both are doing very well and we are all looking forward to a visit from them, hopefully soon! We also welcome two new families to St Mary’s; Jacob G who has started in prep B today and Noah S who started in prep R last Monday. Great to have new friend in Prep! Last Friday, our boys’ and girls’ T-ball teams competed in the zone final. Both teams played amazingly in awful weather conditions and both teams won! They now progress through to the region final later in the term. WELL DONE everyone!
With the change in weather it is time to move to Winter uniform. There are always a couple of weeks where both Summer and Winter uniform are acceptable, however it must be correctly one or the other, and not a combination of both. For example, Winter tights with a Summer dress is not the correct uniform. I have noted that many children have had a growth spurt since last wearing their winter uniform, so please check the length of uniforms before children wear them; dresses and tunics should not be above the knee. It is also necessary to check the condition of the uniforms to ensure that the colour and condition of them is still okay.
The annual Wandin Field Day is fast approaching and once again we are looking for volunteers to help organise, co-ordinate and work shifts at this major fundraiser for St Mary's. Please contact the office if you can assist in any way at all. More details will be in the newsletter next week. School Production (years 3-6) is galloping towards us with rehearsals in full swing. Please read the Costume note that went home today. Tickets can also be ordered from today. Please use the order form inside this week’s newsletter. A BIG thankyou to the families that have braved this morning chilly weather to attend the Working Bee. The next Working Bee is for the Production on and will be held Saturday the 20th of August, 9-11.30am. If you haven’t put your name down yet, please contact the office or fill out the working bee form in this newsletter. With my prayers and best wishes for the coming week,

School Closure Days for 2016 Monday, 31st October (Day before Cup Day) – Reporting
Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.
The pure in heart reveal in
their faces a childlike simplicity. We see in the face of
Christ an innocence and trust that is also on the faces of children.
There is an openness to God at the heart of everything.
Innocent though he was,
Jesus Christ faced deep suffering, enduring torture and
public execution. In the depths of this darkness he continued to
trust in the will of God, and he forgave his executioners.
Lord Jesus, as we contemplate
your face, your purity of heart, may we find strength to go
forward on our path of life. May we, too, be filled with trust in God as
we follow you, our leader and guide.
Amen.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke
Ask, and it will be given to you.
Once Jesus was in a certain place praying, and when he had finished, one of
his disciples said, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.’ He
said to them, ‘Say this when you pray:
“Father, may your name be held holy,
your kingdom come;
give us each day our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive each one who is in debt to us.
And do not put us to the test.”’
He also said to them, ‘Suppose one of you has a friend and goes to him in the middle of the night to say,
“My friend, lend me three loaves, because a friend of mine on his travels has just arrived at my house
and I have nothing to offer him”; and the man answers from inside the house, “Do not bother me. The
door is bolted now, and my children and I are in bed; I cannot get up to give it to you.” I tell you, if the
man does not get up and give it him for friendship’s sake, persistence will be enough to make him get up
and give his friend all he wants.
‘So I say to you: Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be
opened to you. For the one who asks always receives; the one who searches always finds; the one who
knocks will always have the door opened to him. What father among you would hand his son a stone
when he asked for bread? Or hand him a snake instead of a fish? Or hand him a scorpion if he asked for
an egg? If you then, who are evil, know how to give your children what is good, how much more will the
heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!’ The Gospel of the Lord

St Mary’s Food Bank
Once again we are collecting donations for our Food Bank. Every year a team of ladies set aside a couple of days from their own busy lives, to cook and prepare meals to freeze for families that may be going through a difficult time. This has helped many members of our St Marys Primary School
Community last year.
We are asking for donations of, lasagne sheets, pasta sauce, tomato paste, cheese, stock and anything else we can use to make up trays of yummy lasagne and Bolognese sauce. We would also appreciate monetary donations so we can purchase meat and fresh ingredients our recipes.
If you know of anyone from St Mary’s Primary school that may need some help with a meal for their family, please contact the office.
