I plan to follow a urban theme, taking photographs of things like graffiti and the buildings. I think it would be quite a cool idea to find some small graffiti and then

when editing, enlarge it and then place it on a building.

I don’t really have any inspirations from any photographers as I’d like to do my own thing but I

suppose Galen Rowell will inspire me a bit as I plan to include a lot of colours in my work.

Predicted final outcomeI plan to take about 50 photo’s while at Salford Quays. I

will then choose at least 6 of my favourites and edit them. I will be focusing on buildings to capture of the

urban theme of Salford Quays.

I have decided not to use any black and white pictures as although I want to fit the urban theme I also want to explore the colourful side of Salford Quays. I will take

photo’s with a lot of colour but will also take photo’s with not much colour but them edit them to make them really

colourful.

Ansel Adams photography is notable for the heavy use of black and white photos.

I like the way that his black and white photos can still capture emotion.

Galen RowellGalen Rowell is known for his photographs of the wilderness.

I like how his photos include a vast amount of colour that stand out very well.

Salford Quays is a very good location for urban themed photographs as it is in the heart of Salford which is quite

an urban city. Some of the buildings aren't very conventional in terms of look and style – most of them

have urban designs that have a real 21st Century feel to them.

These images are taken by Andrew Yu. He has done an amazing job at capturing the urban feel of Salford

Quays. As mentioned before, some buildings have very unconventional designs and here are 3 examples of

this. These photo’s are going to inspire me a lot when it comes to taking my shots.

that will be used and why The Nikon D3100 is a 14.2 megapixel DX format

DSLR Nikon F-mount camera announced by Nikon on August 19, 2010. It introduced Nikon's new

EXPEED 2 image processor and was the first Nikon DSLR featuring full high definition video recording with full time autofocus and H.264 compression,

instead of Motion JPEG compression. It was also the first Nikon DSLR to provide high-definition video

recording at more than one frame rate.

These are the best cameras that are available at college which is why I’m using one. I do like them though, they take stills and record videos very well

and I have used one for many other college projects.

Techniques that will be used and how they will help convey the visual

message I have chosen to use a few techniques. I will be using

the flash technique on many of my photographs in order to make the most out of the vast colours of Salford

Quays. I will also use the ‘rule of thirds’ technique which will help capture the huge buildings as well as the sky. The sky is always a great thing to edit if it is a nice day because the colours look really nice. I will make sure to have all my photo’s in focus in order give them a crystal clear appearance, however I may purposely not focus

some images as some of them may look effective with a blur.

Salford Quays is an area of Salford, Greater Manchester. After the close of the

Manchester Docks in 1982, the Quays became of the largest and first urban regeneration projects in the UK. The

Quays includes the Lowry Outlet Mall, the Lowry theatre/museum and arts centre, the

Imperial War Museum and as of 2011, MediaCityUK – where the tenants include the BBC, ITV Granada, the University of

Salford and others.

I will be shooting there on the 20th January 2013.
