Australian Petroleum Cooperative Research Centre

The APCRC is a consortium of industry, government and universities that provides

the Austalian oil and gas industry with ready access to cost effective problem

solving in key sectors of exploration and production. APCRC is adding value to the

petroleum industry by:

• finding new oil and gas fields through the development of a better

understanding of seals;

• improving oil production by developing better reservoir characterisation;

• decreasing drilling risk in areas with abnormally high formation pressures;

• finding more liquid hydrocarbons through an improved understanding or

petroleum source rocks and migration pathways;

• decreasing the cost of exploration and production by enhancing seismic imaging;

and

• defining the technical, environmental and economic feasibility of geological

sequestration of CO2, particularly CO2 in major gas fields.

High levels of gearing offer exploration and production companies access to

research worth twenty to fifty times the individual company contribution. The

APCRC provides access to world-class research in a range of institutions

throughout Australia.

Research training and education are important activities in the APCRC. The

APCRC has many graduate students involved in research programs and is

committed to producing well rounded post graduates of the highest calibre for

industry and research. In addition APCRC participating institutions offer a wide

range of petroleum related courses.
