Maurice, where he graduated from high school. He served in

the United States Army from 1959 to 1961 in South Korea.

On August 26, 1960, he married Eileen Joan Vogelaar in

Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post in Orange City. In

addition, he was the secretary-treasurer of the Maurice Fire

Thank to those who took the time to write notes to the kids who went to camp this summer. It was

fun to see firsthand the smiles those notes brought. Priscilla Jansma I went to Grand Camp at Inspiration Hills with Grandma Jansma. My cousins, Anderson and Hayden,

came too. We got to sleep in the camper. My counselor was Aunt Niki. She was nice. I had a lot of fun

canoeing and swimming. It was fun spending time with my cousins. My chaplain was Dave. He would say,

"Shame on you." and we would say back, "No Shame on me." He told us that Jesus took our shame away

when He washed away our sins. My favorite song was "Take it All." Tricia Jansma I went to Discovery camp at Inspiration Hills on July 26-28. We did a chapel every morning and evening. It

was very fun! Then we played a game and after that we went to arts and crafts. My favorite part about

camp was we got to go on trails and we went swimming and swimming was really fun! my favorite part

also was when I met my group and we became friends right away that day! The first night of camp I was

a bit nervous and I got a bit homesick but I still thought it was going to be fun! Another really fun thing we

did was go on the slip and slide and the last day of camp we free time for about an hour or so....The last

day of camp we also played a fun game! it was called Bible Smuglers! It was really fun!..

But the last part it was pretty hard...the rules of the game was when there were signs and there were peo-

ple guarding the signs! The goal is to get a mark by the sign but if you get tagged by the guards you had

to go to the lodge to get another chance. I had a bunch of fun and I’m hoping to come back next year. Elsie Grace Van Beek I had a fun time going back to camp at Inspiration Hills this year. I went to Grand Camp ( this is a camp

for Grandparents with their grandchildren) with 3 of our grandkids. The theme verse from Romans 1:16

was talked about in the chapel services. “I not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God

for the salvation of everyone who believes.” It was exciting to see the kids learn this verse and talk about

what it means. We all enjoyed the yummy food that was prepared for us, including a pancake breakfast,

with awesome toppings for the pancakes. We were able to go canoeing, swim in the pool, have an ice

cream party, and play in the game room. This camp is a great way to interact with your grandkids in ways

you normally don’t get to, and to have fun with other families. Priscilla Jansma I went to Wilderness camp. Some of the things we did were play wilder ball, sleep in a hammock one

night, hike, canoe, and archery. My favorite was archery. I learned that Jesus loves me and He is my

friend. Seth Vander Sluis

This year, I went to the Lodge Camp at Inspiration Hills. This was my first time going for a whole week and I

loved it! Some of my favorite activities were the gaga ball pit, initiatives (activities with other campers),

swimming and playing 9 square. I really liked the bible study time and the food! The theme this year for

camp was Unashamed. This means to me that I will never have to be ashamed of the gospel. Maci Schwarck I went to wilderness camp again this year!! This is my 3 or 4 time to wilderness camp! My favorite part this

year was eating spaghetti without any utensils, sleeping in hammocks and playing games like Ga Ga ball.

I had fun also going with Seth Vander sluis and Jarod Oolman. Thank you to the church for helping to pay

for camp and for all the letters! If you have not ever gone I would recommend going! It's a lot of fun! Mitchell Baartman

EXPERIENCES

To the people of Maurice Reformed,

It is with deepest gratitude that I thank you once again for your financial support. A year has

passed and I have grown and changed quite a bit. I now have quite the impressive lock of hair on

top of my head, but that’s the least of my changes.

This past summer I completed a unit of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) for my summer internship

requirement at Pine Rest. Talk about introspection! I learned things about myself I had never even

considered thinking about. Among them were an awareness of the power that other people’s ex-

pectations have over me, and a new ability to self-differentiate myself to be freed from those ex-

pectations. Another deep revelation was that it is okay to be selfish. This is different from being self-

centered, but has more to do with confidence and self-expression.

As I grew through CPE, I enjoyed visiting with people at the mental hospital. Chaplaincy was very

enjoyable for me, and I was able to lead from my strengths and lift up some of my weaknesses.

Career thoughts come swirling about my head now that I am in my final year of seminary, and

chaplaincy might be a step in the right direction. For the most part I remain unsettled in my call,

and am looking for clarity around that issue.

Currently I am switching to online learning and searching for a full-time job. Your financial support

is wildly helpful with tuition, but I still have to pay for a different myriad of expenses, including the

foreboding “college debt”. I hope to get an edge taken off that by the time I start my full-time

ministry.

God has good things in store for me, I am sure of it, though the present is shaky and foggy. But that

is the nature of this stage of life, to spend a bit relying on the good will of others and learn the val-

ue of reliance. Thank you again for your support, and for being a solid ground for me to stand on

during a shaky time in life. I hope you all the best and I look forward to seeing you all in church

when I visit over break.

Blessings,

Jordan Vermeer

Another year of school is underway – it is so hard to believe – but that also means Jr GAP kicks off on September 13 with “Race Against the Clock”! As we venture into this new youth group year, we will dive into Romans 12. Our theme this year is “Rebel,” based off of Romans 12:2, which says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will.” What does it mean and look like to be a “Rebel” against the ways of this world and live for Christ? The Count Down for the Journey is 17 days…..

Deadline is September 17.

As an adult, am I a growing person in

Jesus? There are a lot of good things that can be said of parenting a child, but the greatest gift you will give your son or daughter is the gift of you being a

growing person yourself.

Ephesians 4:14-15 “We must no longer be CHILDREN… we must GROW UP in every way…..INTO CHRIST.” The Journey is an invitation to explore deeper intimacy with God, identify

who you are as God’s beloved child, and figure out where you fit into His

kingdom work. The group will meet every other week (1 ½ hr sessions) at a

time that is convenient for the group from September to July. We will share

insights from God’s word, and ways He is speaking, and learn from each

other how God speaks to each of us in community. If interested contact Dan

or LaDonna DeVries or sign up at the Information table.

Exciting things are happening in Children’s Ministries at MRC!

Sunday, September 10 is the kick off for Sunday School

Pioneer Club will begin soon for students from preschool to 5th grade!

(Volunteers Needed!) Be sure to register your kids soon!

https://mrc.breezechms.com/form/f0750183

Children in Worship will be starting in October!

(Teachers and helpers needed!)

We will begin our first day of Sunday school on September 10 from

9:35 to 10:40.

The 1st through 4th grade students will go about 5 minutes longer

than the 3year old to kindergarten students to help families pick up

multiple children.

The 3 year old through kindergarten will begin in room 9 with a time

of singing and learning. They will then walk with their teachers to their

classrooms. Names of students and pictures of the teacher are on the

outside of each classroom.

First grade through fifth will begin in the multipurpose room for a

time of singing. This is a change from last year! After about 15 minutes

the fourth and fifth grade students will move to room for large group.

They will then go to their individual classrooms. First through third will

remain in the multipurpose room for large group and then go to their individual classrooms.

Your kids can be picked up at 10:40. Please be courteous of your child’s Sunday school teacher

and pick up your children on time. Many of the teachers have to get their own children and attend

the 2nd service.

We do collect an offering each Sunday. This is a great way to teach the kids how to tithe! Please

consider joining us in teaching them the importance of giving to our Mighty God! The offering

collected is put into the curriculum fund to purchase material for Sunday School.

Something new this year is children and teachers will be let go during the singing of the last

song in church. Please remind your student to go directly to Room 9 for kids ages 3 to

kindergarten or the Multipurpose room for grades 1 to 5! We will start immediately! Thanks!

If you have any questions please contact the children’s pastor, Bonnie Wolf at 567-4665, ext.103

It’s going to be a GREAT year!

Gather and Grow Listed below are the subjects our children will be learning about in Sunday school. It

would be wonderful if you and your children could gather and grow as you read through the scripture with your kids! Be sure to talk about it before coming to Sunday school

each week! I have included a question for you and your child to talk about! All students age 3 through fifth grade do the same Bible story! What a great thing to do as a family! Also, please follow up and ask your child about what they learned in Sunday school that

day! September 10 Unit 25 Lesson 1 John 3:1-21

September Special Offering—Assistance for Public Schools

(Mark Special on offering envelope)

The Mission of the Month for September is Local Public School Relief. The schools receiving these funds are Le Mars Community, MOC/Floyd Valley Community, and Sioux Center Community. There are many families in our area who struggle to provide some of the basics for their family. These funds are used to help the school districts provide some of these needs for their families. Most of the money goes for school supplies for children starting school or coming into the district throughout the school year. Not all children have the luxury of going to the store and picking out new crayons, pencils, etc. Some of the other things that are purchased with these monies are milk tickets which are not covered by the free and reduced lunch program, clothing, coats, mittens, caps, boots, and other clothing necessities. This money can provide a gas card so a family can get to and from doctor appointments. Our school administrators express overwhelming appreciation for the monetary gifts that allow them to purchase these things that are not covered in the budget.

Pray for Brad Schelling with First Priority—Working in High Schools and

Middle Schools

School is right around the corner, which means First Priority clubs are gearing up for another great year. Brad writes they are thankful for the many directors, coordinators, campus coaches, faculty sponsors, and parents that make our

clubs grow each year to spread the Hope of Christ in every student. One of their coordinators, Steven Greene of Lake City, Florida has this to say about how First Priority transformed his ministry.

“I first learned about First Priority from the time I spent in Alabama. After I moved back to Florida, I decided to contact First Priority of America to see if there was First Priority in my area. I found out that there was not one, and First Priority encouraged me to start one. It was an exciting opportunity, but it was also hard work getting it started. I was already busy with a new ministry and a growing family. First Priority never gave up. They continued to encourage me to get a club going. I finally convinced five students, two other youth pastors and a sponsor teacher to help start a new club. Wow! God did incredible things. Within a month, we outgrew our classroom with over seventy-five students! Amazingly, it did not add to my work as a student pastor; it made ministry easier and more fruitful. Before I knew it, the student ministry at my church nearly tripled. Now, my students are leading, growing and reaching out to their friends What I taught them in the church became a reality in their schools, I helped them create the environment on their campus to practice what I was teaching; now they are the ones teaching and leading. So many student pastors think First Priority is just another thing to add to an already busy schedule, but it is so much more than that. It is the practical application of what we are trying to teach student to do.

Brad Schelling is one of our MRC mission partners and you can also give individually to First Priority by choosing FIRST PRIORITY of America Inc. as a charity to your Amazon account so that every time you order something from Amazon, First Priority receives a donation. Pray for First Priority to help launch in 1000 schools this year. Pray for Student leaders as they begin their clubs and for God to work amazing in

our schools.

Pray for Meggan and Pavlos Vasileiadis in Greece serving at the Greek Bible

College, the only Bible college in Greece. This past spring, the college celebrated the graduation of 7 graduates, the largest class ever. Meggan helps in the Library, and Pav is involved in computer coding projects. Megan continues to lead the regular prayer and worship times at the church plant. Recently a teenager who has been attending faithfully the last several months was baptized, and they are hoping to have more meaningful connections in this community. Meggan and Pav regularly meet with members of the church to read the Bible, and are currently going through a Bible study called “the uncommon community”. Pray with them that God will continue to use

their family at the Greek Bible College, in the Kypseli church plant, and through the Bible Project in

reading God’s word with friends, family, and supporters.
