    Android Inc. was founded inPalo Alto, California inOctober, 2003 by AndyRubin, Rich Miner, NickSears, and Chris White.

    Their goal was to develop a"smarter mobile device thatwas more aware of itsowner's location andpreferences.

    They operated secretively,admitting only that theywere working on softwarefor mobile phones.

    Google acquired AndroidInc. in August, 2005,making Android Inc. awholly owned part ofGoogle Inc.

    Nick Sears was the onlyoriginal founder that didnot stay with Android Inc.after the acquisition.

    At this point in time,many assumed thatGoogle was planning toenter the mobile phonemarket with this move.
