HOOFBEATS is bringing you the latest updates and events from
around the school.
This issue is dedicated to the Class of 2020!
From Senior Superlatives to
Embarrassing Moments, and Senior Wills,
HOOFBEATS celebrates the MHS GRADS!
Good Luck Class of 2020!
Class Picks of 2020
Keeping with tradition, the seniors of MHS this
year voted on the class colors, flower, song, and
motto. The class has chosen navy blue and white.
The flower this year that won over the seniors’
votes was the white rose.
The class motto chosen was a quote from General
Grievous of Star Wars fame. It states “Time to
abandon ship.” The song this class voted for was
“Dancing Queen” by Abba.
Give a hearty goodbye to the seniors as they
move on to do great things outside of Mercer High!

Michaela Adams: I told Piper Murray that I would leave her a pencil.
Laken Bartholomew: My locker
Nicole Bornick: I leave behind the libero position for Michaela Johnson to slay at because I know you will.
And Kiera Johnson keep up the support you give to the team; you both will be queens of the quart. To Ky-
lie Bish-Allen and Bailey Grossman, the flutes in the marching band, good luck and keep them in line. To
Christina Critchlow keep up your energy; don't let anyone bring you down and have fun with volleyball you
are amazing. I love you all.
Jenna Burkhart: To Ryanne, I leave my show choir dress, even though the zipper gets stuck, and the smi-
ley face sticker that randomly showed up on my locker but helps me remember which one is mine. I leave
my daily meetings with TK to whoever gets hurt as much as me during sports, and I leave my number 17 to
whoever is worthy and wears my size.
Alexander Chess: To Michael Berger I leave my spot in the wrestling room, to Aidan Bright I leave a cou-
ple brain cells, to Lauren I leave an F in her POD Economics class
Logan Conner: Aidan Bright I leave to be the most yelled at person by Jerry. Michael Berger I leave one

biggest FPM. For Ross and Mason I leave one last high school milkshake and pizza.
Sarah Coryea: Crumpets and tea for everyone, iykyk
Tyler Cridge: Hopefully next year won't suck.
Cheyenne Duffield: To Maddy Vestorsky I leave behind all my hidden art projects around the art room.
Alek Duttry: Abby Duttry: I give you Nurse Bello’s attention since I won’t be in there 400 times a day. Mi-
chael Berger: One last Redskins joke. “I wish you the best of luck finishing last in the division again... and
again the year after... and the year after that”. Mr. Sanner: I finally saw a henweigh the other day, you’re not
gonna believe the size of that thing. Nurse Bello: I’m giving back your free-time
Conner Ealy: There is an unfinished chip carving project in Ms. Martin's room, anyone can have it.
David Ellis: To Taylor Truran & Maddie Laughlin I leave all of Señora's awesome stories and good times in
Spanish. To Peyton Miller & Lily Roman I leave playing imessage games during band and annoying Mr. Her-
wig. To Merrick Morneweck I leave study hall games in Mrs. Walzer's room & a certain specimen of choco-
late milk. To anyone playing baseball I leave Coach Sanner's beach day practices and those last 5 minutes
that we all loved so much.
Elizabeth Fedorchak: The spot on the basketball team as "big Karen" to Katelyn Amon
Aaron Fuge: I entrust the powerful tenor voice to Hammy. You kinda took it from me this year, but it be-
longs to you. I entrust Luke with taking care of the family in my absence. I’ll come back some day. I know I
don’t own it, but I think all of us seniors in musical can agree that Max will take care of everyone in musical
since we have moved on.
Kayla Glaser: To Michaela Johnson I leave annoying Herwig during marching band and yelling "do it again"
back at him. Keep being sassy to people for me. I leave Caleb Aevidum and never knowing what's going on
during band rehearsals.
Kyle Hoffman: I leave behind my lunch table to my little brother, my gaming knowledge to Jacob Elbaz,
and to Mrs. McCracken I leave my unfinished story.
Megan Hogan: To the junior speech team members, I leave the speech team. I know you will take good
care of it. I leave the good vibes of 7th period study hall to Michaela Johnson. I leave the saxophone section
to Max Glaros (don't tell Luke). Finally, I leave planning section unity day to Luke. Make me proud son!
Page 15 Senior Wills

THE HOUNDS. I leave our wrestling circle to Nathan Schupp. Please stop fighting everybody. I leave the
long distance to Colette. Have fun your senior year. I leave Students for Charity to the juniors. And last, I
leave everything else to Bailey Grossman. I'll miss you kiddo.
Hunter Houy: I leave to Aidan Bright full ownership of our wrestling spot in the room. I leave Ethan
Wiley my football sack. To Jake Mattocks I leave group bathroom time. To everyone else I leave my heart.
Samantha Jarrett: I leave the clarinet section to Michaela Johnson and Grant Haggard. Good luck keep-
ing everyone on track during marching band practice.
Brooke Jones: To Kiley Kennis and Solange Elbaz, I leave you both my position on the varsity football
cheer team; try not to be as hard on Coach B as we all know I was. I expect you two to be just as demand-
ing towards the team. Think of me on game nights; I will try my best to come to a few. To the next person
who gets my parking spot in the senior lot, I hope you get to use it more than I did. It helped a lot when I
got to school five minutes before the late bell. To the class of 2021, enjoy every day you have as a high
school student. Don't skip too many days just because you don't feel like going. Senioritis is so real, and
you'll find that out. Senior year flies by, so make it a year full of memories and happy times. Enjoy your last times walking the halls, and good luck to every one of you.
Zaleigh King: To everyone remember at the end of the day you still only have yourself.
Holden Konkle: My band locker I leave to Dylan Disque along with the pile of garbage in it, my position
as section leader of the trumpets I leave to Lilly Roman (good luck), I leave the pep band brick to Aidan
Dadich, anything I didn't mention specifically someone can just have.
Garrison Lutch: To my 3 troublemakers, Abby, Jennah, and Brynn, I leave behind my sense of humor and
stories that I give you permission to share with anyone you want. All speech group members, even though
it was my first year, I leave you the confidence to walk into a room and know you will kill it! And to every-
one at Mercer I leave my bravery to those kids that feel like they don’t fit in; you will get through this,
know you are never alone!
Adrianna Lutes: Someone make Mr. Krenzer’s first period class better than I did.
Alyssa Marano: Faith that you can get through anything.
Haven Masson: The last couple months of my senior year.
Dylan Mattocks: I leave behind the title of the greatest angler to Julian and Cole, and my blue seat in the
corner of Krenzer’s room to no one- it’s my seat guys don’t take it.
Jonathan Michaels: The pong champion position passed down from Zack Stanton.
Darby Miller: As band president, I leave Mr. Herwig to the whims of the entire marching band. Try not to
harass him too much, guys. I also leave the job of throwing popcorn at Mr. Barnes to Jersey Eaton. I leave
the girls' soccer team to co-captain Emma Juergens and all the underclassmen players in hopes they can win
another D-10 championship. I leave the girls' basketball team to all the underclassmen players in hopes they
can maybe not lose as many games as we did this year. To Caleb Turton, I leave the rock with a frog paint-
ed on it that's always sitting in my locker. To Peyton Miller, I leave my poorly organized calc binder and the
Cobalt. To Morgan Miller, I leave my mellophone.
Hayden Mills: All my work for Advanced Government.
Kylee Moore: All the memories that I had with them and positive advice
Brianna Oehlbeck: I leave my soccer ball to Ally and Alexa, let it bring you good luck next season, to
Lexi I leave you my water bottle so that flag line stays hydrated during band camp, and lastly I leave my soc-
cer bag to my brother, and wish both soccer teams best of luck next year.
Isaiah Phillips: Many of you know that I have been involved in many, MANY activities so here goes noth-

ing. To Caleb Turton, I leave you the choir department and my parking spot. Have fun being
the king, and make sure you put everyone in the stocks for me. I leave Art Club and Equus to
Maddie, Allie and Taylor. I’m going to miss laughing with you all (and at Taylor) during our
meetings. To everyone in the choir department, please keep Mrs. Christy sane like me and my
other seniors have the past few years... she’s yours now. To Mrs. Christy, I cannot thank you
enough for everything you have done for me. I wouldn’t have made it to states or gotten an
audition with the best music conservatory in the world without you. Listen for your name on
TV when I win my EGOT and thank you all over again. To my musical cast, please keep Shelby
sane. Max, I leave you in charge of the boys and providing the humor that makes her fall on the
floor laughing. To Shelby, thank you for always being there for me and always not sugarcoating
anything. I will miss our mental health checks and counseling sessions. I leave the show choir to
Cayla Caruso because she always has that big performing smile on her face. I am going to miss
performing with you all. I leave Mrs. McCracken our long sighs every time we pass in the hall-
way as we wait for the day to be over. I also want to thank Senora Oates and Ms. Martin for
always checking up on me supporting my endeavors. And finally, I ask the entire student body to always ask the DJ to play “Single Ladies” by Beyoncé at every school dance... And remem-
ber, that speaker isn’t going to twerk itself.
Madison Priester: My horrible memory of never showing up to class.
Arielle Reiser: I ’d like to pass down the water bottle locker to Julia Balaski, the Journalism
HISSKA calendar to Swade Shipton, and Grace Godfrey gets Cat box’s parking spot.
Corie Roseski: All the room 112 buddies I leave girl talk, music videos and dance parties
whenever you want.
Adrienne Schupp: All the danceline girls- another amazing season. To the class of 2021-
your senior year, make the most of it while you can!
Troy Shirts: For the time I was there I leave the wonderful memories of myself (kinda cheesy
I know).
Nathan Slater: I leave nothing behind but a memory of happiness to those around me.
Rachel Snow: I leave behind the longest senior skip day champions #2020.
Caroline Stabile: Caleb- I leave you the choir department. Take care of Mrs. Christy for all
of us. Keep her sane. Merrick- I leave you the danceline. Continue to go to Applebee’s every
chance you get and jam out in the cars anywhere you go together.
Ian Taylor: I leave my beloved garden club to Marlene Houy. and I leave the responsibility of
keeping this school a good time to Kitty.
Austin Vernille: I’m not sure
Jenna Vincent: For my sister and her friends, enjoy your last couple years and live it up!
Gabriel Wiley: Peyton, I leave you our daily walks in the hallways to and from every class.
Lilly and Cayla, I leave you Peyton. Don't forget about Thursday afternoons.
Christopher Wilms: To my Trombone Section, I leave the choice of where you want to
practice up to ALL of you. I know we moved around a lot, but I still do recommend the stage.
Of course unless Mr. Herwig tells you otherwise, then sorry, listen to him. To Mikey, Jake and
Caleb, I leave you co-section leadership, or the right to decide which of you gets it. To my sis-
ter Zoe, I leave all the pencils you stole from my locker.
Although the girls’ season has come to a close, the team accomplished
many of their goals under coaches Aaron Cook, Crystal Angermeier, and
Allison Godfrey. This season was a notable one for Coach Cook as he
racked up his 100th win as head coach. Seniors Lizzy Fedorchak and Darby
Miller were recognized for their contributions to the team during senior
night, January 27, against Jamestown. New members on the team included
freshmen Macie McCracken, Ally Rynd, Rhiannon Sines, and Paige Spangler.
The Mercer Mustang Boys’ Basketball team looked to
bounce back since a rough 2018-2019 season. Head Coach
Joe Vanasco was assisted again by Coach Andrews and Coach
Berti. The team boasted two seniors this season, Jordan
O’Linchy and Trumell Miller, that were recognized on Febru-
ary 4 against West Middlesex.
The team started off with their first win against Jamestown.
Although they ended with a 5-15 record, the ’Stangs managed
to record wins against Union, Moniteau, and Reynolds. Sam
Ellison, junior, said, “The season was a great learning experi-
ence and a building block for next year. The team’s youth
hopefully keeps our learning ability strong.”
Next season, the team is looking to defeat rivals Lakeview
and Farrell. Building on their strengths will hopefully bring
them to victory. Wish them luck for a successful comeback
season in 2020-2021!
Sophomore Logan Turton

The match-up that the girls looked forward to most was against the West Middlesex
Big Reds. Despite the fact that the game ended in
defeat with a score of 87-53, they all worked to-
gether well as a team to put up a valiant fight.
The girls have strength in their defense skills, but
they admit that they need to work on their shoot-
ing and foul shots for next season. The team’s big-
gest accomplishment was winning their first playoff
game in 3 years against Iroquois with a score of 55-
53. The girls ended their season as second place in
the region with a 64-56 close loss against Maple-
wood. Congratulations to the seniors and all the
Lady Ms for their accomplishments this season!

Hold on to your headbands as Rock of Ages
takes over the stage. This production trans-
ports you from small town Mercer to the bright
lights of Los Angeles. The story follows Sherrie
Christian (Carly Stabile), “a small town girl,” as
she arrives in L.A. to pursue her acting dreams.
These are troubled times for music venues all
along The Strip, including the famous Bourbon
Room. Protests abound as the mayor threatens
to shut down this famous hangout. The owner
of the Bourbon Room manages to secure the
infamous rock band Arsenal’s farewell show in
an effort to keep the doors from closing. Stacee
Jaxx (Gabe Wiley), Arsenal’s lead singer, catches
a glimpse of Sherrie as she is working at the club. Will they be able to “fight this feeling?”
Will this night of Rock ‘n Roll be enough to save
the Bourbon Room or will the mayor silence
rock music forever?

Although you may not be familiar with the storyline or
characters, you will recognize all the tunes, including rock
favorites “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” “Dead or Alive,”
and “The Final Countdown.” Members of the cast are
enjoying learning about an era that is not their own. Sen-
ior, Isaiah Phillips, says, “I love performing this show, and
I want to continue theater in college.” Dylan Disque, a
newbie to musical, when asked about why he joined mu-
sical, said, “I really love spending time with my friends
during rehearsal.” Due to the pandemic, the musical had
to cancel its March performances.

This mystery teacher has had his hair in the style of an afro and claimed he
looked like Ronald McDonald. He also had a childhood pet crow named Coco
who was eaten by a predator. Hobbies of this teacher
included playing football, basketball, track, and baseball in
high school. He wanted to be a professional football
player when he grew up, until he had two knee surgeries
that ended his dream.
His secret talent is that he can sing, and he even made
it to districts and regionals in chorus! When asked what
dead celebrity he would like to meet he said Groucho
Marx. His favorite TV show to binge watch is The Office. When asked what his ide-
al meal is he said an 18 ounce medium rare prime rib, creme brulée for dessert
and to sip down a Chick-Fil-A sweet tea. Look on page 25 for the mystery teach-
er's name.

Shopping Spree!

Prom season is approaching faster than we know it! ‘Tis the season for getting
that perfect dress along with sharp, manicured nails, and those dashing tuxes for
the men. But, where to find the perfect fit for this one of a kind night? Welcome
to your guide for dressing perfectly at prom.
The Winner: This well-known store in downtown Sharon has
an abundant amount of gorgeous dresses. If you are the kind of
shopper that is not afraid to spend a chunk of change on a dress,
this is the place for you! Two of the Winner’s floors are filled
with unique prom dresses. If you buy a dress from The Winner,
they will register your name, school, and dress style. Do not be
alarmed; they are just making sure no one else buys the same
dress to attend the same prom. I strongly recommend The Win-
ner for all of your dress needs.
Twice Blessed: This second-hand store is located in our hometown of
Mercer. It contains an array of items from knick-knacks to elegant prom
dresses. During prom season, Twice Blessed gets a shipment of prom dress-
es from various stores (including The Winner). Here you can get a dress for
a cheaper amount. If you’re the kind of shopper that does not wish to spend
loads on a dress for one night, I recommend you check out Twice Blessed.
Along with your dress, they also sell items such as shoes and jewelry. You
can purchase your whole prom ensemble from one place and at a discounted
price; sounds like a steal to me!
Tuxedo Junction: Don’t worry men; I did not forget about your
tuxedo needs. There’s a wonderful tuxedo shop located in Her-
mitage called Tuxedo Junction. This tux shop was recommended by
none other than Nurse Bello. She’s taken her sons to get their tuxes
here, and she was pleased every time by the look and price. They
also sell various accessories to help you look utterly dashing and co-
ordinate with your date!

• 10 drops of green food coloring
• ¼ teaspoon mint extract
• Whipped cream/ cherry
DIRECTIONS
1. Place the ice cream, milk, food coloring and
mint extract in a blender.
2. Blend until smooth.
3. Pour into two glasses. Top with whipped
cream, sprinkles and cherries, then serve.
Tips For Coloring Easter Eggs By Nicole Bornick
• A fun way to color eggs is to put shaving cream in a pan, then put food coloring in the cream. Mix the colors
around to desired shade, lay egg in the cream and then roll egg around in the pan until satisfied with the look.
• Nail polish is also a unique way to color eggs! First, pour nail polish into a bowl of water, and then layer the
nail polish colors in. Next, dip the egg in the polished water, and you're done.
• Another simple way to color eggs is to put a bunch of different food coloring on a paper towel and then roll or
dab the egg with the towel, making a tie dye design.
