What

Although Ljubljana is a European capital it is so small that all of its sights can be easily visited on foot ndash and this is just what we are going to do We will observe traces left from several different periods in the town the mediaeval castle Renaissance and Baroque buildings and churches and on Miklošičeva Street there are several Art Nouveau buildings that were erected following the earthquake of 1895 The contemporary Ljubljana was planned in the first half of the 20th century by the great European architect Jože Plečnik His works include Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) Čevljarski most (Cobblersrsquo Bridge) the Križanke Auditorium as well as the Ljubljana Central Market

The Švicarija Creative Centre operates as part of the International Centre of Graphic Arts Originally a wooden guest house opened in 1835 Švicarija soon became a popular excursion point for the residents and visitors of Ljubljana The noted architect Ciril Metod Koch designed and built Tivoli Hotel on the same spot in 1909 which went on to become a well-known gathering place for artists bohemians and workers After the Second World War many renowned Slovenian artists found their work spaces in the building Today this tradition continues as the Švicarija Creative Centre provides working and living studios for local artists and residential spaces for international artists The Centre is also to be home to a public programme following the notions of ldquocommunity art and naturerdquo

bull Dragon Bridge (Zmajski Most)There is a legend that Jason was the founder of Ljubljana and he and his Argonauts killed a dragon This is one of the four dragon statues in the bridge According to local legends when a virgin crosses the bridge the dragons will wag their tails Some local people have nicknamed this bridge ldquomother-in-lawrdquo because of its fiery nature

bull Ljubljana Castle (Ljubljanski grad)The castle stands on Castle Hill above downtown Ljubljana It is a key landmark of the town Originally a medieval fortress it was probably constructed in the 11th century and rebuilt in the 12th century initially a defence structure From the first half of the 14th century it became the seat of the lords of Carniola and since the early 19th century it has been used for various other purposes today it is used as a major cultural venue The castle is depicted on the cityrsquos coat of arms along with a dragon on top

What

Although Ljubljana is a European capital it is so small that all of its sights can be easily visited on foot ndash and this is just what we are going to do We will observe traces left from several different periods in the town the mediaeval castle Renaissance and Baroque buildings and churches and on Miklošičeva Street there are several Art Nouveau buildings that were erected following the earthquake of 1895 The contemporary Ljubljana was planned in the first half of the 20th century by the great European architect Jože Plečnik His works include Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) Čevljarski most (Cobblersrsquo Bridge) the Križanke Auditorium as well as the Ljubljana Central Market

The Švicarija Creative Centre operates as part of the International Centre of Graphic Arts Originally a wooden guest house opened in 1835 Švicarija soon became a popular excursion point for the residents and visitors of Ljubljana The noted architect Ciril Metod Koch designed and built Tivoli Hotel on the same spot in 1909 which went on to become a well-known gathering place for artists bohemians and workers After the Second World War many renowned Slovenian artists found their work spaces in the building Today this tradition continues as the Švicarija Creative Centre provides working and living studios for local artists and residential spaces for international artists The Centre is also to be home to a public programme following the notions of ldquocommunity art and naturerdquo

What

Although Ljubljana is a European capital it is so small that all of its sights can be easily visited on foot ndash and this is just what we are going to do We will observe traces left from several different periods in the town the mediaeval castle Renaissance and Baroque buildings and churches and on Miklošičeva Street there are several Art Nouveau buildings that were erected following the earthquake of 1895 The contemporary Ljubljana was planned in the first half of the 20th century by the great European architect Jože Plečnik His works include Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) Čevljarski most (Cobblersrsquo Bridge) the Križanke Auditorium as well as the Ljubljana Central Market

The Švicarija Creative Centre operates as part of the International Centre of Graphic Arts Originally a wooden guest house opened in 1835 Švicarija soon became a popular excursion point for the residents and visitors of Ljubljana The noted architect Ciril Metod Koch designed and built Tivoli Hotel on the same spot in 1909 which went on to become a well-known gathering place for artists bohemians and workers After the Second World War many renowned Slovenian artists found their work spaces in the building Today this tradition continues as the Švicarija Creative Centre provides working and living studios for local artists and residential spaces for international artists The Centre is also to be home to a public programme following the notions of ldquocommunity art and naturerdquo

Although Ljubljana is a European capital it is so small that all of its sights can be easily visited on foot ndash and this is just what we are going to do We will observe traces left from several different periods in the town the mediaeval castle Renaissance and Baroque buildings and churches and on Miklošičeva Street there are several Art Nouveau buildings that were erected following the earthquake of 1895 The contemporary Ljubljana was planned in the first half of the 20th century by the great European architect Jože Plečnik His works include Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) Čevljarski most (Cobblersrsquo Bridge) the Križanke Auditorium as well as the Ljubljana Central Market

What

Although Ljubljana is a European capital it is so small that all of its sights can be easily visited on foot ndash and this is just what we are going to do We will observe traces left from several different periods in the town the mediaeval castle Renaissance and Baroque buildings and churches and on Miklošičeva Street there are several Art Nouveau buildings that were erected following the earthquake of 1895 The contemporary Ljubljana was planned in the first half of the 20th century by the great European architect Jože Plečnik His works include Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) Čevljarski most (Cobblersrsquo Bridge) the Križanke Auditorium as well as the Ljubljana Central Market

The Švicarija Creative Centre operates as part of the International Centre of Graphic Arts Originally a wooden guest house opened in 1835 Švicarija soon became a popular excursion point for the residents and visitors of Ljubljana The noted architect Ciril Metod Koch designed and built Tivoli Hotel on the same spot in 1909 which went on to become a well-known gathering place for artists bohemians and workers After the Second World War many renowned Slovenian artists found their work spaces in the building Today this tradition continues as the Švicarija Creative Centre provides working and living studios for local artists and residential spaces for international artists The Centre is also to be home to a public programme following the notions of ldquocommunity art and naturerdquo

Although Ljubljana is a European capital it is so small that all of its sights can be easily visited on foot ndash and this is just what we are going to do We will observe traces left from several different periods in the town the mediaeval castle Renaissance and Baroque buildings and churches and on Miklošičeva Street there are several Art Nouveau buildings that were erected following the earthquake of 1895 The contemporary Ljubljana was planned in the first half of the 20th century by the great European architect Jože Plečnik His works include Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) Čevljarski most (Cobblersrsquo Bridge) the Križanke Auditorium as well as the Ljubljana Central Market

Although Ljubljana is a European capital it is so small that all of its sights can be easily visited on foot ndash and this is just what we are going to do We will observe traces left from several different periods in the town the mediaeval castle Renaissance and Baroque buildings and churches and on Miklošičeva Street there are several Art Nouveau buildings that were erected following the earthquake of 1895 The contemporary Ljubljana was planned in the first half of the 20th century by the great European architect Jože Plečnik His works include Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) Čevljarski most (Cobblersrsquo Bridge) the Križanke Auditorium as well as the Ljubljana Central Market

What

Although Ljubljana is a European capital it is so small that all of its sights can be easily visited on foot ndash and this is just what we are going to do We will observe traces left from several different periods in the town the mediaeval castle Renaissance and Baroque buildings and churches and on Miklošičeva Street there are several Art Nouveau buildings that were erected following the earthquake of 1895 The contemporary Ljubljana was planned in the first half of the 20th century by the great European architect Jože Plečnik His works include Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) Čevljarski most (Cobblersrsquo Bridge) the Križanke Auditorium as well as the Ljubljana Central Market

The Švicarija Creative Centre operates as part of the International Centre of Graphic Arts Originally a wooden guest house opened in 1835 Švicarija soon became a popular excursion point for the residents and visitors of Ljubljana The noted architect Ciril Metod Koch designed and built Tivoli Hotel on the same spot in 1909 which went on to become a well-known gathering place for artists bohemians and workers After the Second World War many renowned Slovenian artists found their work spaces in the building Today this tradition continues as the Švicarija Creative Centre provides working and living studios for local artists and residential spaces for international artists The Centre is also to be home to a public programme following the notions of ldquocommunity art and naturerdquo
