50 Flyerless Ways to Advertise

Oh, yes. It can be done. I promise.

Consider This…

• On a scale of 1-10, how busy would you say you are?

• When you’re rushing from your room to class, or from class to a meeting, or a meeting to the dining hall, how often do you stop to look at a flyer on the wall?

And, most importantly…

What makes you think any of your peers are any less busy?

Let’s face it. Flyers don’t work.

So Let’s Try Something New.

Let’s try something…

A little more labor-intensive.

A little more thoughtful.

And a LOT more effective.

#12: Establish a hashtagDecide what you want the hashtag to be, and share that with friends and other students. Encourage them to use it before the event to pose questions and spread excitement. By pulling stats (from Twitter AND Facebook!) after the event, you’ll have an idea of what people thought and how you can improve. (IMAGE CREDIT: Popsugar)

#13: Send text updates with Remind101Further reaching than just texting your friends, you can connect to students interested in receiving information via text, without revealing your personal phone number. You can collect phone numbers at interest meetings or at involvement fairs, and then share information with those people with one swipe. (IMAGE CREDIT: Remind101)

#14: Create a text mailing list via GroupMeWant to start a conversation about events or meetings? Consider using GroupMe- more dynamic than Remind101 because recipients can respond. They have an app that you can use to slow incoming text messages, and updates can be sent from a phone, computer, or tablet. (IMAGE CREDIT: GroupMe)

#16: Create an Eventbrite PageHave an event where you’d like people to register or RSVP? Consider using Eventbrite. It allows you to track who has RSVPed, you can send reminders and other important information for attendees ahead of the event, and it provides you with a link that you can share via email or social media. #17: Share behind the scenes photos of event prep and club happenings with Instagram or VineBuild excitement for an upcoming event or meeting with sneak peeks. People find it far easier to connect when they can see what’s going on, and they’ll be more likely to attend if they feel like they’ll like what’s happening when they get there. Let your attendees behind the curtain, and they’ll come! (IMAGE CREDIT: Mashable)

#18: Create a Spotify playlist based on an event theme.Music is a wonderful way to connect with people- why not use it to set a mood for your upcoming event? Share it on your event page and pass it along via email, social media, and other ways you communicate with friends. (IMAGE CREDIT: Favim)

#19: Create a community Pinterest board.Trying to pull together ideas to fill in an event? Start a Pinterest board and add other board members and attendees to it so they can share ideas. #20: Make or show a promotional video.Utilize video editing software and YouTube to create promotional videos that you can share at a JYC table or online with your friends and classmates. If you’re bringing in a speaker or other type of performer that students may not know by name, consider bringing them in on it with you- they might just agree to it! (IMAGE CREDIT: YouTube)
