The Prologue recognizes the last of the founders of Sacred Heart, Dean John Croffy, who retired this year after twenty-three years of service to our University. Dean Croffy was sincerely dedicated to both Sacred Heart and its students. The enthusiasm and optimism he generated were unequaled. The smile and the friendly greeting was classic Croffy, but it was the genuine care, concern and love he showed to all he knew that really separated him from the rest. Dean Croffy's official title was Vice-President for Student Services and Dean of Students, but when asked which one he would keep if he could only have one, he would say the latter. He claimed that was the real pleasure of working at SHU, being the student's dean. No student was ever turned away, his door was always open. Many success stories were made possible due to his efforts. Dean Croffy's retirement is the end of an era at Sacred Heart. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. The SHU community owes John Croffy a debt of gratitude for everything he has done for the students and the University.
