2. Google’s Q3 Financials miss expectations

● Google posted $16.52 billion in revenue for Q3, disappointing analysts

who had forecast Google would haul in $16.57 billion in revenue.

● Shares fell 3% with the news.

● Total number of paid clicks, expanded by 17% in Q3. That was down from

the 25% growth rate that Google delivered in Q2.

● Google ramped up spending in Q3. The company increased its headcount

by roughly 3,000 employees, contributing to a 46% rise in R&D costs.

● Omid Kordestani is the new chief business officer. The chief business

officer is considered a key position, overseeing all the company's

revenue-generating activities & serving as a liaison to investors.

● CPC stabilized, declining only 2% y-on-y compared to the 6% dip in CPC

Google experienced in its Q2.

3. Facebook on marketing to millennials

● “The Coming of Age on Screens” is the first outputs from Facebook IQ the

social network’s new insight unit.

● It is a qualitative and quantitative study covering around 11,000 13-24

year olds across 13 global markets.

● “Fear of being offline” is the new “fear of missing out” for millennials.

● It finds millennials to be a far from homogenous group, better

approached as 3 distinct groups.

● Personal interaction is still hugely important, with 64% of those surveyed

in the UK saying they still spend most time hanging out at friends’ houses

● 75% of millennials refuse to leave the house without their phone.

● Mobile is also the “first screen”: 90% of young people surveyed owned a

smartphone, but the least-used function, is to make a phone call.

4. Vice News Expands

● Vice News will launch newsrooms in Germany, France, Italy, Spain,

Australia, Brazil and Mexico.

● Each newsroom will offer local language editions featuring in-depth

videos and editorial content.
