5 th Grade News Week of August 21, 2017 MATH 5A- Math is off to a great start! This week, we will review place value of decimals and begin reading, writing, and comparing numbers. Homework should be written in planners. The 1st quiz is this Friday, so look for a study guide and use notes taken in class for help. J 5B- HAPPY BIRTHDAY! *August 5- Christopher *August 6- Jonas *August 20-Izzy Q. *August 26- Jesse *August 29- Morgan LANGUAGE ARTS RELIGION Unit 1: God’s Gift of Life Chapter 1: God’s Wonderful Creation. In this first chapter, the fifth graders will recall that God is all powerful and all loving. They will learn that God created every human being in his divine image and they will appreciate the life of Blessed Damien of Molokai. SCIENCE Science is “totality” awesome! After discussing God’s amazing universe and the solar eclipse, the class will learn some basic science safety rules this week. Please sign the Lab Safety Contract that will be sent home later this week and return by August 28. Then, we can begin to explore all that science has to offer. Thank you! I am looking forward to an amazing year! SOCIAL STUDIES This week we will learn about the Eight Strands of Social Science. The fifth graders will gain a deeper understanding of the eight strands by creating a group collage! We will also review the Five Themes of Geography. Possible Quiz this Friday. SCIENCEScience is “totality” amazing! We began the week viewing God’s incredible universe, viewing the solar eclipse LIVE on NASA’s site. This week, the class will complete their group posters of what science means to them. Then, they will learn about the scientific method. I am looking forward to a wonderful year of science adventures!
