Transcript of 5 design ideas for each room in your house
Decorating your entire house can feel like a daunting project. To make
it more fun, try different decoration ideas for each room in the house.
Tackling one room at a time makes the process feel much more
manageable. You can treat each room as a separate project and still
have a sense of cohesiveness throughout your house. Here you’ll find
some ideas for decorating each room in your house.
Bathroom
The bathroom is one of the most essential parts of any house, even if
people don’t think of it as a design or decoration project that often.
But, if you spend time on it, using the bathroom can feel like a
luxurious way to spend your time.
Painting the room a sea-foam green/blue color can create a spa-like
atmosphere. Bathrooms benefit from small, earthy decorations such as
stones and shells. It helps to have some built-in cabinet space in the
bathroom as it can create a roomier feeling. Built-in cabinets also help
keep the bathroom organized, which you need to feel clean while using
the room
Living Room
You can arrange your living room in several different ways. Sometimes
people use it as a formal area. Others use it as a comfy space for the
family to watch your favorite casino movie, visit with guests, do
homework or read a book.
Lots of people like to put their finest possessions in the living room, as
it offers a good space for displaying anything you’re proud of owning.
Statement furniture creates a similar effect as it stands out within
the room. Allow the shape of the room to help you decide how to place
your furniture, and choose a statement piece that stands out, but
doesn’t clash, with the rest of the room. Many living rooms have a
symmetrical design, and call for a similar placement of sofas and
chairs. Putting down a nice area rug can add a sense of dimension to any
living room. Living rooms generally offer a feeling of comfort and
decorative rugs only improve that warm cozy feeling.
Kitchen
The kitchen serves as one of the most practical rooms in the house,
which means you can only do so much to decorate it. That is, of course,
unless you plan to remodel.
Try to remove all florescent lighting in your kitchen if you have any. If
you have a white kitchen, add a splash of color to create an accent wall.
A bright, fun yellow often works well when painting your kitchen. If you
have a spacious kitchen, install an island; you can buy ready-made
models from the store.
Dining Rooms
Dining rooms often have a warm feel to help people relax so they can
better enjoy a meal and visit with one another.
As for color, reds help increase appetite and can offer a great paint
option for the room. Don’t go for a plain red, though, try an off-red
color such as cranberry to create a warm feel. Try using the same or a
similar fabric for table clothes, seat cushions, curtains and drapes to
help tie the room together. Sideboards or buffets in the dining room
to help fill some of the space; it helps to match this with your table
and chair choice. Chandeliers work in almost every dining room; try to
find one about 1/2 to 2/3 the width of the table it hangs over.
Bedrooms
Bedroom designs can vary more than any other room, depending on the
person who lives in it. Designs also vary between bedrooms for one
person vs. bedrooms for two people, like a couple’s/master bedroom.
When choosing a color for a couple’s bedroom, or a bedroom for a
future family member, it’s always safe to choose a gender neutral color
such as soft, almost grey silvers, ivory, beige or taupe.Try to keep
bedside tables around the same height as the mattress. Table lamps
help lighting situations in most bedrooms and add to the look of a
relaxing space. Consistent patterns throughout a bedroom help make
smaller bedrooms feel bigger. Quality linens go further than anything
in improving the overall feel of a bedroom. If you have room, including a
coordinating rug can add to the soft, romantic atmosphere.
The most important thing to remember as you decorate your home is
that it’s your space. Experiment with colors and furniture, and design a
space that reflects your individual style. What’s the latest room you’ve
redecorated? Please share any tips you have with us in the comments
