Upgrading DS3000/DS5000 code
Consider risk of doing concurrent upgrade
–Single paths?
–OS configured for multipathing?
–SAN zoning?
Consider reasons why you need to upgrade?
–Stay current•
BUT - Don’t upgrade just to upgrade
Consider host code
–Drivers
–HBAs
–Operating system patches

Controller Firmware Upgrade Utility
A stand alone utility
Used to check the DS health, and its eligibility to be upgraded
Helps to ensure that any disk system selected for upgrade:
–Is at supported levels of hardware and controller firmware
–Has no existing conditions that may prevent the upgrade from completing successfully
–Has its configuration and MEL saved prior to upgrade for later use if required
–Is offline for the minimum amount of time possible
Run from any machine that has a management connection (in or out of band)
Note: SM 10.10 upgrade is an offline process
MEL: Major Event Log
