    In Lesson #5 Jesus continues The Heros Journey, relocating

    from the familiar village of Nazareth where he grew up, to

    Capernaum on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee, a

    distance of 40 miles.

    At Capernaum Jesus chooses his inner circle of companions:Peter and Andrew, two brothers; and James and John, two

    brothers and the sons of Zebedee and Salome. Peter, Andrew,

    James, John and Zebedee are all from Bethsaidaa few miles

    northeast of Capernaumand they are partners in a

    commercial fishing business on the Sea of Galilee; Peter and

    Andrew now live in Capernaum, while James and John continue

    living in Bethsaida. James and John are Jesus cousins; their

    mother, Salome, is Marys sister or sister-in-law.

    Jesus then sets out with his companions on his quest:

    4. Movement from the familiar: Jesus relocates to Capernaum (4:

    12-17);

    5. Choosing Companions: Jesus gathers his disciples, his inner

    circle of companions (4: 18-22);

    6. The Journey begins: Jesus travels throughout Galilee teaching,

    preaching and healing (4: 23-18: 35).

    We read that Jesus went around all of Galilee, teaching in their

    synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing

    every disease and illness among the people (Matthew 4: 23).

    Teaching,preachingand healingforms the core of Jesus

    ministry.

    If you seriously desire me to come to you, there are

    two hundred and fourcities and villages in Galilee. I

    will come to whichever of these you may select,

    Gabara and Gischala excepted; the latter beingJohns native place and the former in league and

    alliance with him.
