Abstract
A mussel is an invertebrate that has a soft inner body and hard outer shells. It has
no head but has one large muscular foot used for locomotion. The mantles of female
mussels are orange while males are creamy white. Mussel species are very diverse in
color, and shell thickness can vary by where they live. Mussels are natural indicators of
water quality as they filter out the impurities from the water. It is probably unsafe for
humans when mussels cannot live in a waterway. On the other hand, once the mussel
meat is eaten, the shells are thrown away and become waste products without knowing it
can be used in making a hollow block. This study aims to provide a machine that will
automate the process of making hollow block using mussel shells. ffort and time are
wasted when making a hollow block manually. This pro!ect discusses the materials used
in recycling mussel shells into a hollow block and the procedures used in making this
pro!ect feasible. The framework of the machine was built using stainless steel and
aluminum to prevent rusting. The microcontroller is used by the machine to command the
necessary devices to perform each process properly. "# worm gear motors are used to
mi$ the raw materials into mi$ing container, turn the mi$ing container from bins to mold
and dispense the final hollow block mi$ture into mold. A# vibration motor is used to
settle the final hollow block mi$ture into mold. %inally, "# rotary actuator is used to
press the molded mi$ture. &arious concepts and key components have been analysed and
implemented by the developers to make the pro!ect possible.
