Container Flowers
• Use same fundamentals of design as interior plants– Color– Texture– Proportion– Balance
• Fertilize monthly
• Use upright and flowing plants
![Page 5: 5 20 containers](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062419/5587edcfd8b42a724b8b468e/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Container Recipes
• Find in magazines & online

Building Containers
• Use potting mix- not dirt from home or garden
• Add water-holding crystals to keep from drying out so soon
• Plan to water daily or every other day
• Afternoon shade will help decrease watering need
![Page 7: 5 20 containers](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062419/5587edcfd8b42a724b8b468e/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Smart Containers
• Container must have drainage• Use a light weight filler at the
bottom• Fill ½ way with potting mix• Add water holding crystals• Fill remainder with potting mix• Fill to 1-2 in from the top• Add mulch to retain water

Plants
• Use tall plant to set height– About the same height as the container
• Anchor with a bold plant
• Use fillers with complementing colors
• Use a trailing plant to soften the edges of the pot

Less is More
![Page 10: 5 20 containers](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062419/5587edcfd8b42a724b8b468e/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Placing Containers
• Mass similar colors in the same area.
• Elevate containers so that flowers are at eye level.
• Go big rather than small when choosing containers.
• Repetition creates impact and unity.
• Place with a purpose. Accent entries and the primary axis first.
