St. Pete Residential Composting Program Kitchen and yard waste make up about 30% of what is thrown away? Composting helps divert
these materials from landfills and incinerators to deliver nutrients back into the soil.
Composting is the natural process of recycling organic material, like kitchen and yard waste,
which breaks down to form a usable, nutrient-rich fertilizer.
St. Pete’s residential composting program empowers residents to minimize impact on
environment. Residents in single-family homes are invited to sign up the free program.
Participants in the composting program receive a free composting bin from the City to use in
their backyard. There will be no collection service, but the resident will be responsible for
feeding and maintaining the bin and will reap the benefits of the nutrient-rich compost by
spreading it on their lawn or garden or even donating to a local community garden.
For more information, see our composting guide . Sign Up: https://www.stpete.org/sanitation/composting.php

Have you seen this BEAUTIFUL sculpture that was just installed outside of the new St.
Petersburg Police Department? 🎨👮 'Community DNA' is the work of St Petersburg local
Catherine Woods and depicts an abstracted guardian figure - a protector of the community
- designed to represent the heroic dignity of the St. Petersburg Police Department and the
department's commitment to the community. 👨👩👧👦 The artist incorporated thousands of
photos of St Pete buildings, neighborhoods and parks into abstract collages, which she
then painted onto glass and pierced into stainless steel. 🤩 When you visit, see if you can
spot some of St Pete's most popular landmarks in the design ☀️😁
