“Joyfully Growing and Moving with the Spirit”

DID YOU KNOW…

That within the last 2 years the Worship Committee has been asked twice to consider offering only 1 worship service on Sunday mornings. The first time it came to the committee itself, and the committee after their consideration recommended to the Session that we continue to offer 2 worship services at 8:30 and 11:00 am.

About a year after that a session member asked the worship committee to consider 1 worship service again. The worship committee decided to have a conversation with the 8:30 worship attenders to ask their thoughts. Some of their responses were “I like having communion every Sunday.” “I like the quieter service.” “I work on Sundays and this service allows me to worship and go to Sunday school and then go to work.” Others mentioned that they enjoy worshipping early so that they can get on with their day.

The general consensus of this group of 40 to 60 people was ‘we like this service, please if at all possible keep offering it.’ This was reported to the Session and the Session decided to continue to offer two worship services. The Session also believed that the summer worship schedule of having just 1 worship service for June and July would provide a little compromise to those who enjoyed the many in attendance.

St. Philip will be providing hot dogs, fixins’ and drinks, and there will be a potluck in the

Fellowship Hall for all of the sides, salads, and desserts!

This year the Jazz Monsters will be joining us at 7:30 P.M and will play leading up to the fireworks

starting at 9:30 PM on the West Lawn. (Front Row View!)

Come early to secure a parking spot. Bring your lawn chairs & blankets to sit on, and play

games with others!

YOUTH CALENDAR

June 12th-17th 9:00 a.m. Youth Mission Trip

July 11th-14th 5:30-8:00 p.m. Vacation Bible School

Youth Mission Trip

The youth went on their mission trip the week of June 12th. Your support of them makes this trip possible. Thank

you to all of those that got their cars washed, bought sub sandwiches, had their kids babysat, sponsored events, and/or

donated money.

All of the youth were able to go free of charge. This made the trip possible for many who would not have been able to go otherwise. They are headed to Arkansas and will be working to help serve and prepare meals, working in the habitat

re-store, and learning about sustainability and being good stewards of what God has given us.

The youth have a true heart for mission and look forward to the opportunity to serve and learn. Please pray for them as they process this trip and keep your eyes peeled for

more mission stories.

The youth and sponsors who attended are: Jim Houston, Rachael Moffett, Kadin Houston, Melissa Moffett, James Moffett, Julia MacLeod, Cole Garis, Hope Garis, Aaron Perez, Ashley Perez, Lily Belknap, Tyler Belknap, Andrew Asante, and Jake McLain

St. Philip Sunday School children and youth will be studying the following during classes starting at 9:00 A.M. during June & July:

Birth-Age 2 will hear Bible stories that are designed for young learners.

Ages 2 & 3 are studying “Baby Moses” from the Hands on Bible curriculum.

Ages 4-5th Grade will be studying “Re-New” focusing on being good stewards of God’s creation.

Jr. High & Sr. High will be using Feasting on the Word, which provides opportunities for this age group to explore their personal and communal identity in Jesus Christ through meaningful community-building experiences, engaging Bible study, and relevant learning activities. Biblical stories will come alive in new and creative ways. In response to God’s amazing, unconditional love, youth will be challenged to put their faith into action as they grow to understand themselves as Christ’s disciples.

News!

Alissa will be acting as a small group leader for synod youth workshop once again this year. This is a wonderful opportunity to serve the broader church. She will be gone doing this the last week

of July.

We have one youth attending this camp. It is for youth 9th-12th grade from all over Synod of the Sun. Synod of the Sun is a network of

Presbyterians from 11 Presbyteries, approx. 800 Congregations in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas - over 157,000 members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

Note of the Week from Pam Cochrane……

As you know, our dear organist, Mirai Yi, is leaving us to return to Korea at the end of June. :( Isaac, her husband has finished a Master’s degree of Divinity at Southwest Seminary and already has a position waiting for him in a town an hour north of Seoul. We were very fortunate to have Mirai play here at St. Philip for two years and will miss her, Isaac and their two children, Faith and Hope, greatly!

I hope you were able to wish her luck at her reception last Sunday! If not, let her know before she leaves!

I will be on vacation and Jennifer Stark and Bernadette Vigiletti will be leading the worship services while I am gone. The anthem for this Sunday is “What Is the World Like” from our hymnal, GTG. Some of the words are: What is the World like when God’s will is done? Mustard seeds grow more than we can conceive: roots thread the soil; branches reach for the sun. This is how God moves us each to believe. See you in church on Sunday. Joyfully Singing in Christ, Pam Cochrane

GUESTS ARE WELCOME!

The custom at St. Philip is to donate prayer bears to Cook Children's in honor of our fathers on their special day. This year, due to the congregation's generosity when we sold bears at Christmas, the bear account was overflowing!

Edith Vaughn, our “go-to bear lady” decided to just donate the bears this Father's Day instead of selling them. So, this year the Presbyterian Women will donate 200 bears to

Cook Children’s. Thanks to all of you for your generosity and for honoring our fathers.
