Dr Nna is the Head of Safety Molecular Pathology Laboratory in Nigeria, which provides HLA typing, paternity testing, human identity and cancer diagnosis . www.safetybiomedical.org The 4th Annual PCR Technology Workshop: HLA Typing by Molecular Methods The Human Leucocyte Antigen (HLA) typing is the most important histocompatibility test with particular relevance to organ/ tissue transplants. The clinical applications of HLA typing include 1) typing for renal transplantation, 2) typing for haematopoeitic stem cell transplant, and 3) typing as an aid to HLA-associated diseases. HLA typing has transited from serologic typing to DNA– based typing in most histocompatibility test- ing laboratories. This workshop focuses on DNA– based typing methods including PCR-SSP, PCR-SSOP, PCR-RFLP and Sequence-based typing (SBT). It is a hands-on intensive course that will enable participants acquire skills for setting up and conducting HLA typing.
