The research " propose to do for my

paper is a case st!dy #hich #ill becond!cted in an !pper secondaryschool. The foc!s #ill be on the #ritingskills in nglish that secondary school

st!dents are e$pected to ha%e at alo#er to intermediate le%el. The st!dy#ill deal #ith the st!dents&performances in' as #ell as theirattit!des to #riting skills tests. The

st!dy #ill consist in an e$periment on a(th grade class. The e$periment #illrely on %ario!s instr!ments andanalytical tools dra#ing on both

)!alitati%e and )!antitati%e researchparadigms.

Testing has ma*or impact on the st!dents& and theirteachers& li%es. +!dgments on the st!dents& f!t!rest!dies as #ell as their careers are made by almoste$cl!si%ely taking into acco!nt the st!dent&s scores in%ario!s tests. ,oreign lang!ages -partic!larly thenglish lang!age competencies and testing themha%e an increasing role in a st!dent&s life in theconte$t of Romania&s integration into the !ropean

/nion and the increased st!dy and *ob mobility itentails. /nfort!nately' in Romania there has beenlittle interest in the theory and practice of lang!agetesting. More often than not' for a long time's!b*ecti%ity has been the only approach in the design

and marking of classroom tests -and not only. 0nlyrecently there seems to be a gro#ing interest -tho!ghtimidly manifested in this %ery important area. Thisst!dy' modest as it may be' seeks to *oin this trend.The !ltimate p!rpose of this st!dy is to make thest!dents !nderstand in depth #hat #riting skillsin%ol%e at this le%el and hopef!lly to lead to an
