R AIM

SThe 4 Pillars Network aims to support African governance initiatives through exchanges of expertise and information between governance specialists.

Since our launch in 2006, our network has been invited to facilitate exchanges between judges specialising in financial crime, senior bankers and regulators, non-executive directors, internal auditors, compliance officers, company secretaries and financial journalists.

Failures of corporate governance are not exclusive to Africa as our own recent banking crisis has shown all too clearly.

Nevertheless, many City of London financial institutions aspire to be beacons of good corporate governance.

We offer our African partners the opportunity to visit these institutions on study tours.

London hosts have included:

Barclays, BP, Citigroup, Clifford Chance, FSA, HSBC, KPMG, NAO, Old Mutual, PwC, the SFO, and Standard Chartered.

The 4 Pillars is a registered charity No. 1148664.

The 4 Pillars Network was founded in response to the Commission for Africa (2005).

The Commission highlighted the need for better governed enterprises as a condition for attracting more foreign investment to and reducing capital flight from Africa.

Since our launch, we have supported governance initiatives in Abuja, Accra, Banjul, Johannesburg, Lagos, London, Mombasa, Nairobi and Victoria Falls.

We have been on a journey, and next year will find us, for the first time, in Cairo, supporting the Arab awakening in North Africa.
