    PRODUCT NEWS:

BULLDOGThe Bulldog alignment and rip detection switchis an electro-mechanical system designed to detect dangerous belt

misalignment on conveyors and also belt tear damage.

METHOD OF OPERATIONThe switch will detect horizontal misalignment of belts when contact is made with the roller, theroller arm will be forced to pivot by the belt activating a switch at 15 to trigger an alarm, and 30

to trigger a shut down procedure of the conveyor. The sensors are usually installed in pairs on opposite sides

    of the belt.

A steel flexible wire is set below the running conveyor belt approx 2030mm attached by a rare earth magnet at each end.

If the belt is ripped or damaged the wire is pulled away releasing the magnet connection which in turn will activate a switch.

    CHAIN CONVEYORS

The 4B high power WDA reluctance sensor will detect a moving ferrous object up to 4" away.It is not affected by dust or material build up. It can be used as a slack/broken chain detector when installed as

shown below. The sensor has an adjustable sensing range (1" 4") and an LED helps with field adjustment.

Using the mounting block supplied, cut a 4" diameter hole in the sheet metal and position the mounting block so that the sensor

is centred on this hole. Alternatively, the sensor and mount can be installed on a stainless steel plate without drilling a hole forthe sensor. In this case, the sensor will not be affected because the sensing field can pass through the stainless steel plate.

How to Detect Slackor Broken Chain

    Speed Relay

Contacts change state when sensorstops detecting target or bolt

OPTION 1Sensor Detecting Bolt Installed on the PaddleUnder normal running conditions, the target bolt passes throughthe sensors field and a pulse is sent to the speed relay. If the chainbecomes slack, the target bolt will drop below the field and thepulses will stop, causing the relay contact to change state.

OPTION 2Sensor Detecting Steel FlightUnder normal running conditions, the steel flight passes throughthe sensors field and a pulse is sent to the speed relay. If thechain becomes slack, the steel flight will drop below the field andthe pulses will stop, causing the relay contact to change state.

OPTION 3Sensor Waiting to Detect Steel FlightUnder normal running conditions, the steel flight is out of thesensors field, so no pulses are sent to the speed relay. If the chainbecomes slack, the steel flight comes into the sensors field and apulse is sent to the speed relay, causing it to change state.

4B Drop Forged Chain Morestylesandsizesnow available

In addition to the popular 102, 142, 216 and 260 mm

    chain pitches, 4B now manufactures 125, 150, 160,

175, 200 and 250 mm chain pitches as well.

The chain is the heart of the conveyor. With the right flight

design, it can be used to move material by simply dragging it

or, depending on the properties of the material, by moving it

enmasse in a solid column. Material can be moved enmasse horizontally, on an incline, vertically and in different

conveyor paths (i.e. Lpath, Zpath, etc).

4Bs forged chain design is derived from a standard European

DIN metric chain developed many years ago for extreme

applications. The chain is forged, machined to precise

tolerances and case hardened to endure high temperature

    and highly abrasive applications.

4B specify minimum chain breaking loads instead of averagechain breaking loads, considering that the chain is asstrong as its weakest link. For more information or technical

    Employee Profile:

    Shane Coburn -Sales Engineer

From an early age I was always

    interested in how things work.

At the age of 12, I explored the

inner workings of a four stroke engine after my friend rode

my motorcycle into the canal. My father took one look at all

the bits on the floor and said Itll never work again He was

amazed when 3 hours later I was riding it around the garden.

I have worked at Braime for 32 years starting as an

apprentice in the Tool room. In 1986, after 8 years making

press tools, I was invited into the drawing office where I wasable to design them. It was during this time I realised problem

solving was something I enjoyed and had a knack for.

In 2006 during a personnel reshuffle I was invited to join

the sales team as a sales engineer to give technical advice.

This has been a challenge, as I had to learn yet another

    avenue of engineering principles.

In my free time (when Im not a taxi for my 3 teenage kids) I

like a game of golf, and I play league snooker for my local

club. Im not brilliant, but I enjoy it. On the whole I have

enjoyed the last four years and have hopefully built some

good business relationships both here in the UK and

    places further afield.
