    International Airports

    An international airport has direct service to manyother airports.

    Handle scheduled commercial airlines both forpassengers and cargo.

    Many international airports also serve as "HUBS", orplaces where non-direct flights may land andpassengers switch planes.

    Typically equipped with customs and immigrationfacilities to handle international flights to and fromother countries.

    Such airports are usually larger, and often featurelonger runways and facilities to accommodate the largeaircraft. (FBO, MRO etc..)

    Domestic Airports

    A domestic airport is an airport which handlesonly domestic flights or flights within thesame country.

    Domestic airports don't have customs andimmigration facilities and are thereforeincapable of handling flights to or from a foreignairport.

    These airports normally have short runwayswhich are sufficient to handle short/mediumhaul aircraft.

    Regional Airports

    A regional airport is an airport serving trafficwithin a relatively small or lightly populatedgeographical area.

    A regional airport usually does not havecustoms and immigration facilities to processtraffic between countries.

    Aircraft using these airports tend to be smaller

    business jets or private aircraft (generalaviation).

    Most of the worlds airports are owned by governmentbodies who then lease the airport to privatecorporations who oversee the airports operation.

    Forexample, In Malaysia, airport are authorized by

    Malaysia Airport Holding Berhad (MAHB). MAHB responsible is to focus on the operations,

    management and maintenance of Malaysia airports.

    How are airports managed?

    There are several divisions to manage each suborganizations at an airport.

    These divisions including

    Airport operation services (security, fire & rescue &maintenance)

    Airport planning and development (engineering)

    Airport financial (revenues, business)

    The primary objective of each division is to ensure theoperational efficiency, safety and security of passengers,cargo and aircraft operations.
