Agenda:

Wealth easily corrupts people, society, and the American Dream. People feel that money can bring happiness and success, but truthfully, the corruption of people and society are based off the desire for wealth. In the novel, The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the main character, Jay Gatsby, shows how money can corrupt people and society. This novel, taking place in the Jazz Age, focuses on the very wealthy character, Gatsby, and his long lost love for Daisy Buchanan. Throwing sumptuous, lavish parties, Gatsby thinks that he can go back to the past and reconnect with Daisy, but will soon realize that his wealth cannot make his dreams come true or bring the past back. Throughout this novel, Fitzgerald uses characterization, conflict, and symbolism to clearly show that returning to past is an unobtainable dream.

Agenda:

Creon is an effective leader due to him preserving the law over personal decisions, he rules with fear, and is open to change.

Lastly Creon is an effective leader because he is open to change. When Creon calls for Antigone to be killed due to going against the law and burying Polyneice’s body he was convinced not to kill her. But little did he know it was too late due to the fact that she committed suicide (Source 1). This portrays he was open to change in the first place. Every effective leader needs to be able to see both sides of the argument in order to get a fair judgment and potentially be open to change. But not all effective leaders are open to change, a tough leader with a zero tolerance policy can also be very effective because it can show people there is no room against the law.

Agenda:Antigone is an effective leader because she supports individuality in demonstrating

her ability to be fearless, use her moral compass and inspire others through her actions.Antigone portrays the characteristics of being fearless by defying the law. In the

prologue of Sophocle’s Antigone, Ismene and Antigone are discussing what to do regarding Polyneice’s body. Following Antigone telling Ismene she will still bury him, Ismene says, “But think of the danger! Think what Creon will do! Antigone: Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way” (Antigone 191). Despite Creon’s public proclamation that no one shall bury Polyneice’s body, Antigone decides she must and will regardless of the consequences she will face. This displays that she is fearless and follows her heart. Some may say it is necessary to always follow the law and to fear the consequences however Anitgone demonstrates that you must be fearless and follow your heart. By being fearless and breaking the law, Antigone is going against conformity and doing her own thing. A strong leader has the ability to, “Withstand adversity and motivate himself in the face of frustration” (The Secrets of Great Presidents, Goodwin) This article articulated that in order to be a strong leader you must be independent and withstand the conformities of people and do your own thing regardless of what others might think.
