A Measure of Mercy

God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all. Romans 11:32

I was invited to speak at a church service many years ago, and I made two big mistakes. First, I decided to speak on the discipline of children. Second, I brought my kids to the church with me. I should have known better.

After delivering my witty, charming, and informative message, I stood at the front of the sanctuary answering questions from a group of about twenty-five parents. As I dispensed further wisdom, we all heard a crash in the balcony. I looked up in horror to see nine-year-old Danae chasing five-year-old Ryan over the seats, giggling and stumbling and running through the upper deck. It was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. How could I go on telling the mother in front of me how to manage her children when mine were tearing down the church?

At frustrating times like these, I urge you to show a measure of mercy to your rambunctious little ones. No matter how hard you strive to implement a flawless system of discipline in your family, there will be times when it breaks down. Children will be children. If the Father of creation can grant mercy to His disobedient children (Romans 11:30–32), we can do the same to ours.

Before you say good night… • Do you ever expect more from your children than you should? • Are you merciful toward your kids even as you discipline them? • Are you most concerned about your image or your kids’ character?

Father, as we raise our daughters and sons, remind us that You are

the author of their childish ways. As we teach them, lead us to

attitudes of patience, understanding, and mercy.

Thank You for our kids! Amen.

Dear friends,

Welcome to our newsletter this week – our fifth week of the term which means at the end of this

week we are half way through the term!

We wish our Year 6/7 students and staff safe travelling on Friday as they visit Parliament House

and the SA Museum in Adelaide. I’m sure this will add to the students interest and understanding

of their units of study regarding Government and Ancient Civilizations.

A reminder that the Parents and friends Association meets tomorrow evening in the Library at

7 pm. It would be great to see as many as possible there to support this important auxiliary body of

our school.

We celebrate Book Week next week with a couple of activities for the children. As usual there will

be a Book Fair in the Library with a special competition around the theme for this year ‘Books Light

Up Our World’. A dress up day is also planned for next Thursday. A separate note regarding these

arrangements has been sent home today.

Concert practices for classes are continuing as we head towards our Week 9 performance. Many

thanks to Mrs Muster (producer) for her tireless organisation and Year 6/7 students for taking

the leading roles this year.

Until next week,

Mr Lieschke

“Whether your life is happy or not is your

own choice" Nick Vujicic

Imagine getting through your busy day without hands or legs. Picture

your life without the ability to walk, care for your basic needs, or

even embrace those you love. Meet Nicholas Vujicic (pronounced

VOO-yee-cheech). Without any medical explanation or warning,

Nick was born in 1982 in Melbourne, Australia, without arms and

legs. Three sonograms failed to reveal complications. And yet, the

Vujicic family was destined to cope with both the challenge and

blessing of raising a son who refused to allow his physical condition to

limit his lifestyle. The early days were difficult. Throughout his childhood, Nick not

only dealt with the typical challenges of school and adolescence, but

he also struggled with depression and loneliness. Nick constantly

wondered why he was different than all the other kids. He

questioned the purpose of life, or if he even had a purpose. According to Nick, the victory over his struggles, as well as his

strength and passion for life today, can be credited to his faith in God. His family, friends and the many people he has

encountered along the journey have inspired him to carry on, as well. Since his first speaking engagement at age 19, Nick has travelled around the world, sharing his story with millions,

sometimes in stadiums filled to capacity, speaking to a range of diverse groups such as students, teachers, young people,

business professionals and church congregations of all sizes. Today this dynamic young evangelist has accomplished more

than most people achieve in a lifetime. He’s an author, musician, actor, and his hobbies include fishing, painting and

swimming. In 2007, Nick made the long journey from Australia to southern California where he is the president of the

international non-profit ministry, Life Without Limbs, which was established in 2005. Nick says, “If God can use a man without arms and legs to be His hands and feet, then He will certainly use any willing

heart!” "Many people think I can't live a normal life because I don't have arms or legs. I could choose to believe that and give up

trying. I could stay at home and wait for others to take care of me. Instead, I choose to believe that I can do

anything, and I always try to do things my own way. I choose to be happy. I am happy because I am always thankful”

Nick Vujicic

Year 3-4 Class Excursion to the SA Museum

Last Wednesday the Year 3-4 class went to the SA Museum to increase their knowledge about

Aboriginal culture and lifestyle. The students’ showed enthusiasm towards learning new

information as well as curiosity through asking lots of questions. A Museum Educator shared

information about Aboriginal people’s lifestyle, before Europeans arrived. The students were also

able to interact and touch some of the artefacts. Overall we learnt lots of new and relevant

information needed in understanding our History topic about the first Australians.
