Christmas: A Time for Giving

Christmas is one of the happiest holidays because during this season, people

are more generous than at any other time of the year. The practice of giving

is not a recent innovation—it began on the first Christmas when Jesus was

born. Everyone in the story had something to give.

• When Mary submitted to God's plan, she gave her body to be the first home

of the incarnated Savior (Luke 1:30-38).

• She also surrendered her good reputation in order to fulfill the Lord's calling

for her life.

• Joseph offered his love and protection to Mary and the child who was not

his own (Matt. 1:18-25).

• An angel gave an announcement of the Messiah's birth to some lowly

shepherds who were watching their flocks at night.

• A heavenly host of angels offered praise and glory to God.

• The shepherds shared the first personal testimony about the Messiah.

• The wise men relinquished the comfort of home to seek the newborn King

and give Him gifts worthy of royalty (Matt. 2:1-11).

At first glance, these gifts may seem to pertain only to the first Christmas, but

they each have application for us today. Believers are called to give of

themselves to the Lord and to one another in similar ways.

Look at this list again. What gifts could you give to Christ today? Maybe you

need to submit to His will in a difficult area or endure misunderstanding in order

to obey Him. And how about others? Who needs your protection, love, or

perhaps the good news of salvation in Christ?

CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS Term 4 Week 9

Please note that Canteen will be closed next week.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to helping with

Canteen throughout the year.

Dear friends,

Welcome to our second last newsletter for the year. Again we trust that the information is

valuable to you as we head into the final days of term.

A number of events again this week but two in particular are worthy of note.

Tonight the Year 6/7s and staff will be attending an End of Year Dinner at the Reception

Centre. This is the first time we are holding such an event, kindly sponsored by our PFA. The

aim – to celebrate with our senior students, many of whom are moving on from our school and

primary school in general, their school years here at Lobethal Lutheran School and the service

and leadership that they have shown. We look forward to the success of this occasion, the

fellowship it creates, and the community spirit it shows in our school.

The other event is what is now our annual Junior Primary Nativity Worship being held this

Friday afternoon. Once again the staff and students have worked hard to prepare this and we

invite our school community members (parents, grandparents, friends, church members etc.) to

join us at 2.15 pm as the children present the wonderful story and meaning of Christmas to us

all.

Until next week,

Mr Lieschke

Lobethal Pageant Thank you to the willing students who have volunteered (or

been volunteered by their parents!) to take part in the

School ‘float’ in the Lobethal Christmas Pageant on

Wednesday December 23 (not Thursday as I had put on the

return slip – sorry for the confusion). We have 25 children

at the moment but it is not too late to join in. We are still in

need of a vehicle to carry some children – a boat and trailer

would fit with our theme – ‘Christmas at the Beach’, or

failing that a general trailer of some description. If you can

help out please contact the office as soon as possible.

Thank you

MY FRIEND JERRY...

My friend Jerry was one of the most positive people I had ever known. He was always in a good mood

and always had something encouraging to say.

He was a manager at a restaurant. If his employee had a bad day, Jerry always helped him to look on

the positive side of the situation.

Jerry‘s attitude truly amazed me. So one day I asked him: "How can you be so positive all the

time?". He replied, "You see, every morning I tell myself, that I have two choices for that day – to be in

a good mood or in a bad. I choose the good one. And when something wrong happens, I can be sad

and angry or I can learn from it instead. I choose to learn. Thus I choose the positive side of life". I

said, "It is not that easy." He replied, "Yes it is. Life is all about choices. You can choose how people or

situations will affect your mood, your life."

One morning Jerry left the restaurant‘s back door open and was held up at gunpoint by three armed

robbers. He tried to open the safe, but his hands shook due to nervousness and he slipped off the

combination. So the robbers shot him. Fortunately, Jerry was quickly found and brought to the nearest

hospital. After many hours of surgery and long intensive care, Jerry was released home.

When I met him, I asked what his thoughts were during the robbery. "I thought that I should have

locked the back door," he replied. "Then, when I was lying on the floor, I remembered about my

choices in this case: a choice to live and a choice to die. I chose to live."

I asked, if he was scared. Jerry continued, "When they wheeled me into emergency room and I looked

at the faces of doctors, I got truly scared. I knew that I need to do something. So when the nurse asked

me, if I was allergic to anything, I replied' "Yes." The doctors and nurses stopped working as they

waited for my answer. I took a deep breath and yelled, "Bullets!" They started laughing and I said, "My

choice is to live, treat me as I am alive, not dead."

Now Jerry is alive owing to skills of his doctors, however his amazing attitude played an important role

too. I learned from him, that every day we should choose to live fully no matter what.
