Carbon footprint spreadsheet
InstructionsPlease fill in the sheets with BLUE TABS. Grey tabs are for information or assessor use only
Footprint calculation
Enter energy use data on the 'Footprint Calculation' sheet.
Blue cells are 'level 1' emissions. This information is required to achieve the Standard.
Pink cells are 'level 2' emissions. This information is optional for the first certification.
0
Reduction
The reduction in footprint over 2 or 3 years is calculated on the 'Reduction' sheet.
Enter turnover and/or benchmark information on this sheet to calculate a relative reduction.
Data sources
Please enter data sources for audit / verification purposes
Simple spreadsheet
You are using the full version of this spreadsheet. If you wish to use the simple version, click t
The full version is required for organisations that:
- import or export power or heat from CHP
- have undergone structural changes that significantly impact the
footprint (acquisistions, divestments, outsourcing, insourcing)
- have more emissions sources than will fit in the 'footprint calculation'
sheet (e.g. petrol, diesel, LPG and aviation fuel)
- wish to include process, fugitive or other emissions sources
- are SMEs using the 2% project reduction rule

No data needs to be entered, but sheets are important forchecking issues and showing final output
On all sheets, cells are colour coded:- Cells required for level 1 and level 2 are pale blue- Cells required for level 2 only are pink- Orange cells are for optional information- Cells that calculate automatically are yellowNote that 'level' is a Carbon Trust Standard term, while 'Scope' is aGHG Protocol term. The two are not identical.
The 'Comments' column should be used to provide any furtherinformation. For example:- Details of sources- Description of calculation/estimation approach and emissionsfactors used- Any other relevant informationThe 'Notes' column contains information or instructions to help the

Input data for different emission sources ensuring units column(column C) is correct and noting the data source in Column I- For a level 1 footprint, complete all relevant pale blue cells- For a level 2 footprint, complete all relevant pale blue and pinkcellsUse the plus symbol to the left of the sheet for extra rows if requiredFor some sources, the units and emissions factors have been pre-filled with typical values (e.g. kWh and UK grid emissions forelectricity). These values can be changed if the company reports in
Identify relevant emission factors (some common factors are listedon the 'Emissions Factors' sheets, for others use appropriate sourcee.g. DEFRA's Corporate Reporting Guidelines) and insert in ColumnD, noting the source in Column I if non-standard
Ensure any exported heat or electricity is reported in rows 71 & 72(as a positive value) and use DEFRA's guidelines to calculaterelevant emission factors to insert in Column D
If there is not enough space on the 'Footprint calculation' sheet, please record any other emissions here
This sheet should be used if emissions from CHP need to beallocated - i.e. if the organisation has a CHP plant and exports someof the heat or electricity, or if it imports energy produced from CHP
Adjustments to the footprint for imports or exports automaticallyfeed through to the 'Footprint calculation' sheet
In order for a like-for-like footprint to be compared across the years, the footprint must be adjusted for any structural changes (such asoutsourcing, divestments, acquisitions) over the time period. Usethe 'Adjustments' sheet to calculate the footprint of the section ofthe organisation to be excludede.g., if subsidiary X of an organisation was divested in Year -1, thenthe Year -2 footprint and Year -1 footprint must be adjusted
This sheet should be used for all organisations where the reductionrequirement will be based on 2 or more years of data
In row 10, report whether a level 1 or level 2 footprint has beenmeasured for each relevant year
In row 15, specify the denominator to be used for the relativebenchmark (e.g., FTEs, tonne product, no. of items), the annual
If the footprint is adjusted for structural changes (see 12 above),then the benchmark and turnover should also be adjusted using
