Medicare EnrollmentMedicare enrollment begins and ends

early this year. The annual period to signup or make changes to your plan beginson Oct. 15, 2011, a month early. Themost important change is the cutoff date:Circle the date on your calendar, becausethe enrollment period now endson Dec. 7, 2011. This way you’llhave your card at the beginningof the New Year.

As always, you only have thisone time per year to make anychanges to your coverage for 2012.Changes can include Medicare Advan-tage, your drug coverage, Medigap sup-plemental or your regular Medicare.

There are a number of changes you’llneed to figure into your decision-mak-ing:

— Drug coverage (Part D) will cost abit more. At this point, however, theydon’t know how much that will be forthe premiums and deductibles, but youcan find out at the website or phone

number below.— Part B premiums will increase a bit

as well. Watch the news, as the cost ofliving adjustments (COLA) are generallyannounced sometime in October eachyear.

— “Doughnut hole” coverage has afew changes. When you reach the limits

of coverage, you’ll get a 14 per-cent discount on generic drugsand a 50 percent discount onbrand names.

No matter what type of planyou have, beware. There could

be changes to all parts of your coverage.Be sure to check the fine print so youknow what you’re getting.

Read your Annual Notice of Changecarefully. To learn more about all thechanges, go online towww.medicare.gov and look for the pub-lication called “Medicare & You 2012.”To find a plan in your area, click on Re-source Locator, then scroll down toMedicare Plan Finder. You also can call1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
