Adapted Programs at TH&VS - Grade 9 to 12

In some cases, students require a specialized program to support them as they work towards: ● OSSD - Ontario Secondary School Diploma (30 credits – 18 compulsory and 12 optional, 40 hours community service as well as a test of reading and writing) ● OSSC - Ontario Secondary School Certificate (14 credits – 7 compulsory and 7 optional) or ● OSSCA – Ontario Secondary School Certificate of Accomplishment (less than 14 credits) Course selections should be a process involving the student, the parent(s) and the guidance counsellor. These choices should reflect a student’s abilities, needs and future plans. For students with identified special learning needs, an IPRC may be required to confirm these selections. Some grade 9 and 10 courses in math, science and English have been “locally developed” to provide assistance and support to students to upgrade basic skills. (See asterisk * below). If students initially take locally developed courses, they may transition to applied level courses after having developed the required foundational skills to proceed to more academically challenging courses. Please note: “Locally Developed / Essential” courses do not meet the pre-requisite requirements of certain college programs. Students planning to attend college are advised to transition from locally developed courses to applied level courses as early as possible. The following adapted program is suggested for those students who are working towards an OSSC - Ontario Secondary School Certificate (14 credits).
