Schedule of Events11 a.m. Festival opens to the public. Opening performance by the Hofbeats, a Hofstra University co-ed a cappella group.

National Anthem of Ireland – sung by Kevin Westley, T.M.R.F., host of “That’s How I Spell Ireland” radio program on WRHU (Radio Hofstra University).

The Star-Spangled Banner – sung by the Hofbeats.

11:30 a.m.- The Black Velvet Band12:45 p.m. Traditional Irish music featuring Jimmy Walsh, Jimmy Lavin and Mickey Perry. The Black Velvet Band has played with some of the finest entertainers in Ireland and the United States.

1 p.m. Master of Ceremonies Tony Jackson Master of Ceremonies Tony Jackson, host of the “Irish Country” radio program on WRHU (Radio Hofstra University), welcomes the public.

1-1:30 p.m. Katie’s Puppets Families can enjoy a comedy/puppet show and children’s activities. (Kids’ Korner – toward the back of the Mack Physical Education Center)

1-2:40 p.m. The Tommy Mulvihill Band Come enjoy some of your favorite Irish songs performed by one of Long Island’s most popular Irish bands

2:30-3 p.m. Katie’s Puppets Families can enjoy a comedy/puppet show and children’s activities. (Kids’ Korner – toward the back of the Mack Physical Education Center)

2:45-3:30 p.m. The Black Velvet Band 3:45-5 p.m. The Hirten Family Irish Dancers Come enjoy one of the best-known acts of their kind in the United States. The group includes several national champion dancers recognized by the Irish Dance Association of North America. They have qualified for and competed in world championships held in Ireland.

Reel Ireland Film Series: In AmericaWednesday, April 3, 6-8 p.m. The Helene Fortunoff Theater, Monroe Lecture Center California Avenue, South CampusNominated for three Academy Awards. Directed by Jim Sheridan and co-written with his daughters. This semi-autobiographical film explores the mixture of hope and despair associated with emigration. Discussion to be facilitated by Professor Maggie Burke.

Ireland Since Vatican II —A Talk by Dr. Margaret MacCurtain Tuesday, April 30, 11:10 a.m.-12:35 p.m.Guthart Cultural Center Theater, Axinn Library, First Floor, South Campus Margaret MacCurtain is senior lecturer emerita in the Irish History Department of University College Dublin and professor at the School of Irish Studies, Dublin. A former member of the Academic Council of the Irish School of Ecumenics, she served on the Catholic Communications Council set up by the Catholic hierarchy after Vatican II.
