MUNICH, Oct 4, (Agencies): Thomas Mueller and Robert Lewandowskistruck twice each to steer Bayern Munich to a 5-1 demolition of second-placedBorussia Dortmund on Sunday, which allowed the champions to open a seven-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga as they equalled their record of eightconsecutive wins at the start of a season.
Germany international Mueller opened his account in the 26th minute and doubled the hosts’ leadwith a penalty nine minutes later for his eighth league goal as the Bundesliga leaders took controlof the top-of-the-table clash.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang kept up his remarkable run of scoring in every one of Dortmund’s leaguematches this season as he slotted in from close range a minute later.
But Bayern forward Lewandowski killed off any hopes of a comeback with two goals early in the second

The Hoops took to the pitch at NewDouglas Park knowing they couldreduce the deficit behind the leagueleaders after they suffered a 5-1 homehammering at the hands of St Johnstoneon Saturday.

Hamilton player-manager MartinCanning was disappointed to lose.

The experienced Dutch coach steppeddown with Sunderland winless after eightleague games.
The 68-year-old Advocaat was initiallyhired on a two-month deal last seasonand, after saving the team from relegationin May, he had a change of heart anddecided to stay for a season. Now he isleaving without compensation.
“I feel it is the right time to do this - not forme, but for the club,” Advocaat said on theclub website on Sunday. “I have made thedecision to go after only eight games as I feltit was important to give everyone time (to)turn things around — like we did last year.”

Dettori rides Golden Hornto victory in Prix de l’ArcPARIS, Oct 4, (AFP): Frankie Dettorirode Golden Horn to victory in thePrix de l’Arc de Triomphe atLongchamp on Sunday, dashing thehopes for a record third win forFrench great Treve.
Winning Europe’s most presti-gious horse race for a fourth time, 44-year-old Dettori hit the front earlygoing down the back straight andnever looked like being caught by thechasing pack.

Manohar succeeds deceased Dalmiya as BCCI ‘president’MUMBAI, Oct 4, (AFP): ShashankManohar was unanimously elected presi-dent of the Board of Control for Cricketin India (BCCI) on Sunday, vowing torestore the governing body’s image aftera series of scandals.
The Nagpur-based lawyer succeedsveteran administrator Jagmohan Dalmiya,who died last month, in what is arguablythe most powerful job in world cricket.
“Mr Shashank Manohar elected,” theBCCI said on its official twitter account@BCCI after a special general bodymeeting at its headquarters in Mumbai.
Manohar, who had earlier served asBCCI president from 2008 and 2011 andwas the lone candidate in the election,
will remain at the helm for two years.Dalmiya’s death on Sep 20 had trig-
gered a bitter succession battle within thefaction-ridden BCCI, with former chiefSharad Pawar being a key contender forthe post.
