WHAT IS AUTHENTIC LEADERSHIP

a 2008 article published in the Journal of Management entitled “Authentic Leadership: Development and Validation of a Theory-Based Measure,” by Fred Walumbwa and 4 other co-authors.

A pattern of leader behavior that draws upon and promotes both positive psychological capacities and a positive ethical climate, to foster greater self-awareness, an internalized moral perspective, balanced processing of information, and relational transparency on the part of leaders working with followers, fostering positive self-development. (p. 94).

I think any follower that observed that behavior in a leader would simply call that good leadership.

As a Leader, you might stand alone…for a while

Nurture the first few followers as equals

Make everything about the movement, not about you

Be EZ to follow

Leadership is over glorified, the first follower turned the lone nut into a leader

There is no movement without the first follower

If we were all leaders, it would be really ineffective

The first follower is the most courageous, and they show the others how to follow

Authentic Leadership is awfully trendy…. Who are the authentic leaders; are they really authentic; are they just jumping on a bandwagon?

Is authentic leadership appropriate in all aspects of life? Example?? The military? Police Dept?
