Welcome to Simmsational 2018 at Johnstone Auction Mart, Moose Jaw, SK on Thursday, December 6th. Forty one and counting! Wow! Time flies. This sale has been one of the longest running, if not the longest, consignment sale in Canada. And one of the best, as the quality just gets better and better. We’ve had some great consignors over the years and some great new ones these past few years. Besides the offering being really good, the consignors are even better and it’s a fun sale to take part in and be at.

We are consigning our usual ten bred heifers again this year, right from the top of our pen. Headed by four Red Deputy red heifers, all out of first calf heifers. Deputy calved very well for us, but he’s one of the rare calving ease bulls that also sires power and performance. His first son to sell, IPU LIEUTENANT 24E, was a deep, thick, powerful calf that was purchased at our 2018 bull sale for $52,000 by Hoegl Livestock and Bohrson Marketing. We think Deputy’s heifers are going to be superior females also. They’re easy keeping, broody, setting up beautiful udders and are the right kind. Our four black heifers are our most consistent to date, headed by a 56U daughter that is a full sister to Red Deputy’s mother, two Priority daughters that are real eye catchers and a big, powerful Spark Plug daughter out of a 56U dam. The two fullblood heifers are definitely the best we have ever offered at Simmsational. They are three quarter sisters sired by FGAF French Attack 010C, who is probably the best and most consistent fullblood bull we have ever used. These heifers are all A.I. bred in April and have no exposures.

P.S. Grandkids are growing up way too quick. Our oldest has just turned fifteen in November and our youngest is eight already. They’re all healthy and full of energy. They’re all into sports – hockey, karate, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, swimming and the boys are all in 4-H. They keep their parents busy going up and down the road. We’re so lucky to have them all living close and they all go to school in Gladmar.

Full Fleckvieh. This could be the best fullblood female we’ve ever sold. She’s dark cherry red, goggle-eyed, has tons of capacity and volume, is setting up a beautiful udder and has style to burn. Sired by FGAF French Attack, the most consistent Fleckvieh bull we’ve ever used. Anchor D Ranch purchased him from the Gagnons in Quebec as the high seller of their sale. I was lucky enough to get ahold of Danny that day and purchase a semen pack in him. Whether heifers or bulls, his progeny are at the top of the pen. IPU Renne 41E’s polled Eclectic dam is really a beautiful cow and has a super polled full sister to her in the keeper pen. Bred early to the polled Full Fleck, easy calving FGAF Guerrero should be a very exciting mating. We think this great female has a bright future ahead of her.

The grandmother to 15E produced a $25,000 bred heifer in the 2015 sale selling to Wilson Stock Farms. The Pocahontas 68M cow family is probably the best producing family we’ve ever had, followed by Pocahontas 52N, 68M’s full sister. This powerful, super uddered Deputy daughter is mated to 52N’s grandson, IPU 2Y Dillinger 80B early in April. So a little line breeding with the resulting progeny having both 68M and 52N in the pedigree. Dillinger is a great easy calver, blood red and smooth made. He sired the $28,000 IPU Dillinger 14E bull that sold in our spring bull sale to Lockhart Valley Simmentals from Rimbey, AB. We think this mating should result in a very exciting calf whether a heifer or bull. Pocahontas 15E is homo polled by parentage as an added bonus.

The 105L cow was a cherry dark red, power cow with a super udder. She was sixteen when we sold her last fall. We think 42E could follow in her footsteps; dark red, powerful, setting up a nice udder and mated to the exciting $40,000 Black Gold Loaded Up bull that Ultra Livestock and Hay Valley Ranches purchased this spring from Black Gold. We were the runner up bidder on him and feel fortunate that Riley and Trish gave us the opportunity to purchase a semen pack on him, the only one sold.

Like we did a couple of years ago at Simmsational when we offered all IPU Red Zone 16A daughters in our red division, this year we are offering all IPU Red Deputy 25C daughters, a group we are very proud of and can’t wait to calve his daughters we have at home. This very broody, excellent uddered heifer again goes back to 68M and is bred early to Loaded Up.

This heifer, Eloise 170E, is going to make a really good female and bred again to Loaded Up. She also is homo polled by parentage.

An exciting Priority 3C daughter out of a very good Lotto cow that produced the $42,000 El Tigre son, IPU Resolve 114D, that sold in our 2017 bull sale to Deeg Simmentals and Muirhead Cattle Co. She again has a really good bull calf in our black pen this year. These Priority daughters are going to make exceptional cows. They’re structurally very good, angular, good uddered and very eye appealing. This heifer has a lot going for her. She is homo polled by parentage, has a great set of EPDs (in the top 35% or better in 11 of 13 categories) and is bred to the calving ease bull, Skors High Roller 34C. This is definitely a brood cow in the making.

She’s very stylish, has a beautiful front end, a little white blaze on her face, good udder and has the length and body to go with it. If we were into the show ring this might be the one we would choose to show. She’d be a very competitive 2 year old cow/calf pair in next year’s shows. She’s homo black by parentage and we think she’s homo good.

The Desi 135E heifer is feminine, long, very attractive, homo polled and setting up a great udder. Bred to the red Black Gold Loaded Up bull should be very exciting, especially if it comes in black. With Springcreek Liner 56U, the Desi cow family and the famous RF Certainly Flirtin 532C cow in the resulting calf’s pedigree her calf should have a bright future.

Welcome to our part of the sale. Our females are all bred to our own herd sires. We believe the con-sistency of bigger sire groups is important in developing a consistent group of brood cows as well as sale bulls in the spring. Our cows go out to grass mid April and come home mid November so AI’ing is not an option for us.
