Welcome to volume #1 of: News from the Reunion.
T his is a slightly irreverent, humorous, and oftentimes sarcastic view from class
reunions and other news stories pertaining to the graduating Class of 1971.
Oh, and sometimes we do print articles that are important and news worthy.
If you have a story or photos that you wish to submit kindly email them to:

Which of these sophisticated, debonair men started their pick-up technique by
spilling half a beer on a girl? Of course, followed by gratuitous mopping up of
spilled beer on her upper thigh? A.)______ B.)_______ C.)_______ D.)_______
You may remember at the 30th class reunion, Sherri Hurt and Scott Braxton started
dating and were married.
On the 40th class reunion, Jane Rottier and Greg Porter started dating and were
married.
Somehow this approach may not net the same result. Sorry, better luck next time!

The Love Connection -
Don’t ask!
Maureen Hamilton (Hackert) and Kristen Mellott (Walsh) Friday
night at The Crystal City Sports Pub. Below, Maureen in disguise
after being asked by Kristen about the 42nd Class Reunion.
Admittedly, this was a fantastic reunion but the next one isn’t yet
on the calendar. However, stay tuned, Maureen says the next reunion will be themed –
“If Still Alive After 45 Years Class Reunion”
Run Kristen, run! Maureen’s not ready for another reunion yet.
Casey' Casey let down your Hair! Who knew that David Anderson’s wife was such a
great hair stylist?
I'm too sexy for my hair
too sexy for my hair
Too sexy and I don’t care
And now it’s too sexy for my hat
too sexy for my hat
"Casey decided to keep his golden locks after he heard he looked HOT!”

News from the shallow end of the gene pool -
“His truck done blowed up the ABC store!”
If you had attended the reunion, you would have heard the story of one of our classmates that involved a truck, some alcohol and an ABC store! Apparently, he whose name shall not be spoken got drunk, set his truck on fire and ran it into the ABC store where everything done blowed up! At least that is how the
paper reported it. Only those of us who attended the reunion know the whole story! And our lips are sealed.
More news from the shallow end of the gene pool—”The diaper people”
Many topics of conversation were heard throughout this past weekend. One
such discussion centered on the area of dependability and being pampered
(add an s to the bold lettering and now the encryption reads correctly).
Perhaps I am mistaken but one class member was too fascinated by the conver-
sation (How they got on the subject? Well, no one knows but . . .). After hearing
more, I tried to cover my ears but, too late. Oh my Jim, diaper people — really? I guess being
bottle fed at any age can be peaceful. Our resident expert is now
available by email to answer your questions. (Photos- upper left,
Jim before the conversation and right, after learning about the
diaper people).

Reflection on friendship and a reunion poem
There are some friendships that we remember forever. These are the friendships formed in our youth. Youthful friendships lack the drama and intensity that is shared in adult friendships. However, there is a certain carefree quality that exists between friends during their youth. We didn't ask ourselves compli-
cated questions like whether we had enough in common to become friends. It was simply enough to grow up together, share schools, and graduate before leaving the comfort of our community.
Forty-One years has now passed us by
Forty-One years, now we’ve turned old and grey, stiff in joint, but alive with spirit and greatness of mind
I want you to know you have never left my thoughts You’ve always been close within my heart
carried aloft with fondness, honor, and duty Annandale pride lives on through the years
This short time together has strengthened my soul such wonderful friends with good hearts to lend
Our reunion gave me pause and I listened for hours to lives led and tears that were shed
Gone are the days when we helped each other through good times and bad Gone are the days when we found strength as a class
We meet again though now as individuals, forty-one years from our past
Filled with shared memoires – The passing years,
The different roads and separate ways Once we lived through innocence and grace
now replaced by clarity the of age We gathered to embrace the familiar memories of our youth
Once peace, free love, and tranquility was our mantra Now we embrace the still calming sounds of nature’s call
We’ve moved beyond the parts of our past that our future must live with
and raise a toast to the unchanging, the changing, and stories from our past. These stories upon which we reflect sound so much more exciting in retrospect
We came together to this reunion wearing our lives upon our sleeves
now depart joined together as before
Forty-One years extinguished in the blink of an eye Strength in ATOMS we all stand tall
Classmates, friends, lovers, and all

Well cowpokes another reunion down the barrel. We done blowed up the town and shot the whole wad.
More to come but, for now, it’s time to skee-dattal.

In conclusion -
The 41st reunion was a grand success due to the hard work of many people. An especially big
thank you to Robbie Lindholm for coordinating the bowling event, Dave Tighe for the golf
outing, and Debra Olson (Silver) for her invaluable efforts in contacting classmates. The
efforts of these individuals and others not mentioned here made all the difference in the
quality and enjoyment of our get together. Most of all we wish to thank those who were able
to attend the 41st reunion. You made all the efforts worthwhile. For those who were unable
to attend, for whatever reason, you were missed. We hope and pray that all is well with you
and your family.
God willing, we’ll gather together soon celebrating our friendship, reuniting with those
classmates whom we have not been able to locate yet, and raise a toast to the wonderful
classmates we’ve lost over the years. Until then, keep visiting the website and posting your
pictures and stories.
Sincerely,
The 41st Reunion Committee
