TEHAMA COUNTY DEPARTMENTOF EDUCATION
Tehama Adult Learning Center“The Barkery”
Tehama Adult Learning CenterTehama Adult Learning Center (TALC) through the Tehama County Department of Education, located in Red Bluff, is an 18 through 21 year old special education program. Students at TALC, typically participate in the Special Day Classroom (SDC) while at the local high school and graduate with a certificate of completion. The students primary disabilities are Mental Retardation and two of the students that are enrolled are non-verbal.
TALC teaches the following areas:Functional Academics such as
budgeting, counting money, telling time, writing a Mother’s Day card
Daily Living Skills such as cooking, menu planning, grocery shopping, bus training, household tasks
Social Skills and Communication from the curriculum “Social Thinking” by Michelle Garica-Winner
Work Experience in the Community such as Dollar Tree, St Elizabeth’s Hospital, Hospice Second Hand Store, Fast Wheels Bike Shop, Salvation Army, Aquarium Pet Store & Reynold’s Ranch Feed Store
Social, Leisure and Recreational Activities such as bowling, watching a movie at a movie theater, eating out and shopping at the mall.
Tehama Adult Learning CenterThe TALC program allows students to begin
experiencing adult life activities in the community while having the support of the school system.

The BarkeryThe Barkery is all-
natural gourmet dog biscuits, which are made and sold by the TALC students.
It is a school-based enterprise that was initiated as part of the program in 2007.

Oven, refrigerator, sink & washing machine &dryer were already in place—resulting in no cost.
Cost depends on quantity of items purchased, we purchased a quantity of 5.
It’s important to note, that the students can share supplies.

Revenue Our revenue averages about $1,300.00 per school year All revenue is used by the students to purchase items for the classroom or for a community outing Each year the entire revenue earned is used by the current class so that the students that raised the funds benefits from their work & effort
