With a single hung window, only the lower sash is capable of being moved.

Double hung windows are made so that both sashes can be raised or lowered.

Casement Windows are hinged on the sides like a door, and are the sides like a door, and are opened and closed by turning a hand crank .

They may be opened together or individually.

The casement window shown at right is a double casement. Single casement windows are also available.

Sliding windows are commonly used where commonly used where small windows are required such as above a kitchen sink or above a water closet.

They open and close left to right and one moveable sash slides behind a stationary sash.
