PERSPECTIVE’S 40 UNDER 40 AWARDS 2019
Resounding success for thirteenth edition of 40 Under 40 Awards
[Hong Kong, 30 May 2019] Perspective, Asia’s leading architecture and design magazine, proudly
presented the 13th edition of its annual 40 Under 40 Awards, with a presentation ceremony and design
forum held on May 28 at The Annex, Nan Fung Place, Des Voeux Road Central, Hong Kong.
Recognising young design talents from across Asia and abroad in four design fields — art, architecture,
interior design and product design. The final 40 were chosen based on professional achievements,
contributions to the industry, and potential for future development and growth. Consideration was also
given to any awards won, participation in industry events as a speaker, panelist, or judge level (where
applicable) and contributions to society.
A design forum and Q&A session themed ‘Heritage in Hong Kong: trend, benefit or burden?’ was
hosted prior to the celebrations. The forum, attended by 100+ people, covered the conservation of Hong
Kong built heritage and its significance to not just those in the profession but the community in general.
This year’s forum saw heavy audience involvement, with passionate dialogue on the topic discussed. Moderated by Roger Wu, Council Member (Asia and Australasia Region), Royal Institute of British of Architects, guest panelists included:
- Edward Leung: Chair, Heritage and Conservation Committee, Hong Kong Institute of Architects - Emily Verla Bovino: PhD, Professor of Art and Architectural History, SCAD Hong Kong - Ray Zee: Lead architect at the Nan Fung Group for The Mills revitalisation project - Sujata S Govada: Founder & managing director, UDP International - Winnie Yeung: Head of Heritage Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts
“The 40 Under 40 event celebrates the outstanding talent of young architects and designers across Asia who are consistently producing exceptional work. This event has become an opportunity for these talented young professionals to both showcase their work and get deserved recognition,” commented Peter Jeffery, Publisher, Perspective.
“This year we recognized winners from Hong Kong and as far afield as the United States, Italy, India, China, Taiwan and Australia. We had a wonderful attendance of over two hundred people joining in this
celebration. As we share their success today, Perspective will continue to serve the Asian architecture, interior & product design market to seek out and promote the best projects and creative talents from across this region. Some past winners such as Andre Fu, Sou Fujimoto, Barrie Ho, Bjarke Ingels and Ma Yansong have gone on to earn worldwide critical acclaim. To have cultivated over 500 young winners is an astonishing landmark and we thank all our sponsors who have generously supported us on this remarkable journey.” With an expert panel of industry professionals and former 40U40 Alum brought in to judge this year’s
