Heat – what is it?
A form of energy.

What kind of heat is produced when two objects rub against each other?
Friction

Column 1, #3Column 1, #3
Conduction – the process of transferring heat from 1 molecule to another.
Example is a metal pan placed on a stove. Heat rises up the sides of the pan and to the handle.
Heat can travel by conduction or be absorbed. What does conduction mean and give an example.

Column 1, #4Column 1, #4
Define heat absorption and give an example.
Absorption – heat is taken in and held in an object.
Example is the black driveway on a sunny day absorbs the sun’s rays and gets hot.

It will turn from a solid into a liquid, possibly even into a gas.
What happens when you add heat to a solid mass like water?
What state of matter will it become?

Column 2, #2Column 2, #2
It is a measure of how much a material opposes the flow of electric current and changes electric current into heat energy.
What is resistance, in terms of electric currents?
![Page 10: 4 th grade CATS Science Review Properties of Heat Electricity Circuits Magnetism Jamey Herdelin Maupin Elementary April 2004 PowerPoint template by Anna.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062801/56649e195503460f94b0699e/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)

What do we use daily in our homes that lights your life because it has a coiled wire inside that has high resistance?
![Page 11: 4 th grade CATS Science Review Properties of Heat Electricity Circuits Magnetism Jamey Herdelin Maupin Elementary April 2004 PowerPoint template by Anna.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062801/56649e195503460f94b0699e/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)

A conductor – metal, water
What do you call a material that allows electric current to pass through easily?
Give an example.
![Page 12: 4 th grade CATS Science Review Properties of Heat Electricity Circuits Magnetism Jamey Herdelin Maupin Elementary April 2004 PowerPoint template by Anna.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062801/56649e195503460f94b0699e/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Column 2, #5Column 2, #5
What do you call a material that does not let an electric current pass through easily?
An insulator - glass, wood, rubber, plastic
![Page 13: 4 th grade CATS Science Review Properties of Heat Electricity Circuits Magnetism Jamey Herdelin Maupin Elementary April 2004 PowerPoint template by Anna.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062801/56649e195503460f94b0699e/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)

It needs a source of electricity (like a battery);
some type of conductor (metal wire), that forms the path;
a control device (switch) to control the electric current; and
an appliance (light bulb, motor, loudspeaker).
What 4 things does an electric circuit need to work?
![Page 14: 4 th grade CATS Science Review Properties of Heat Electricity Circuits Magnetism Jamey Herdelin Maupin Elementary April 2004 PowerPoint template by Anna.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062801/56649e195503460f94b0699e/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Column 3, #2Column 3, #2
What happens to a light bulb if the electric circuit is an open circuit?
It does not light up because there is a break somewhere in the circuit – the electric current has been stopped.
![Page 15: 4 th grade CATS Science Review Properties of Heat Electricity Circuits Magnetism Jamey Herdelin Maupin Elementary April 2004 PowerPoint template by Anna.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062801/56649e195503460f94b0699e/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Column 3, #3Column 3, #3
What kind of circuit do you create when you flip a switch and the ceiling fan starts moving?
Created a closed circuit because electric current is flowing.
![Page 16: 4 th grade CATS Science Review Properties of Heat Electricity Circuits Magnetism Jamey Herdelin Maupin Elementary April 2004 PowerPoint template by Anna.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062801/56649e195503460f94b0699e/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Column 3, #4Column 3, #4
A series circuit contains a couple of objects along a single path.
A parallel circuit connects several objects in a way that the current for each object has its own path.
What is the difference between a series circuit and a parallel circuit?
![Page 17: 4 th grade CATS Science Review Properties of Heat Electricity Circuits Magnetism Jamey Herdelin Maupin Elementary April 2004 PowerPoint template by Anna.](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062801/56649e195503460f94b0699e/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Column 3, #5Column 3, #5
In a series circuit, the 2nd light bulb is out because the circuit is open.
In a parallel circuit, the 2nd light bulb is on because it has its own closed circuit.
If you have a circuit with 2 light bulbs, what happens to the 2nd light bulb if the first light bulb in a series circuit is loose; what happens if it is a parallel circuit?

What is a magnet and give an example of when we use them?
A magnet is anything that pulls iron, steel, and certain other metals together.
Examples are magnets on the refrigerator door & the refrigerator door.
