Transcript of 4 Steps Towared Building a Team Mentality
Why is having a team mentality so important?
Even if you’re a teacher in a traditional classroom…
Because it unites you in a common purpose.
Because the members of this group will be:
(CHECK ALL THAT APPLY.)
Spending a lot of time together Learning from skills from one another Relying on each other for help Competing or performing as a unit
Without teamwork and group interaction, each student or clique becomes a silo.
(RESULTING IN THESE KINDS OF ENVIRONMENTS) Students aren’t as comfortable participating. Learning is restricted by the creativity and
thought patterns of each student or clique. While some students may excel, as a whole
performance will not reach optimum levels.
These 4 steps will help build a team mentality, to optimize the
learning experience.
Create a Group Identity You can do this by choosing a• theme song• catch phrase
• team name• team mascot
Or start off by sharing an inside joke!
Yes we can!
Find & Set Common GoalsTake a quick in-class survey. What do you want to accomplish?
Choose 5-10 achievable goals for the group as a whole and get started!Be sure to highlight achievements as they happen!
Encourage New ConnectionsConquer those student cliques.
Try the Count-Off Pairing StrategySegment students into groups by asking them to count off in order 1-2-3! Students with the same number will work together. Students who naturally group up before class are paired with new people!
Be ENTHUSIASTICIt’s contagious and excitement opens people up to new experiences.
Use the Group Identifier(s)You can use the group identifier(s) from step one to get everyone revved up. Ever wonder why sports teams have songs, rituals, and mascots? This is it.
It’s time to get started!
