Charles Mokoena, a 23-year-old resident of Sakhile, singlehandedly arrested a fugitive who was wanted for more than 11 years for the murder of his wife and best friend. The action taken by Charles Mokoena is highly commendable and everybody is very proud of this young hero.

SECUNDA - The Office of the Station Commander of Secunda Police would like to report a robbery which took place on Friday, 28 August, at about 11:30 in the Secunda area.It is alleged that the domestic worker was busy with her daily household activities when she heard a knock at the front door. She went to check the door, but nobody was there. A second knock at the door followed and she became suspicious. She ignored the knock and suddenly she heard something breaking

and three males entered the house. One of them held a gun in his hand. Two of the suspects were speaking Zulu and the other Sepedi.

They then instructed her to follow orders otherwise she would be hurt if she does not comply. She was covered with a gown and she was tied up with cable ties and made to lie down on the floor in the dining room. The robbers went through all the rooms and took all the jewellery they could find. In the master

bedroom, they took some more jewellery and removed the safe which was mounted on the wall. From the sitting and dining room, they took a hi-fi and expensive plasma TV’s. It is still not known whether there were firearms in the safe or not. The value of the items stolen during the robbery is not yet known.

The police are investigating the case and any person with information that could help to arrest the robbers can contact Secunda Crime Office at 017 624 2020. JD

STANDERTON - Dumisane Annaneas Maya (26) was sentenced on 15 August, in the High Court in Ermelo for the murder of Desta Tamre Hafamo.

On 5 May 2014 the deceased was in his shop when he was at-tacked by the accused. A witness had seen the accused talking to the deceased. An argument and a scuffle ensued where after shots were heard and the accused was seen running from the scene with a firearm in his possession and blood on his clothes.

Some of the community members followed the accused to where he entered a certain house. A young boy in the house subsequently came outside and told the police that the accused was hiding in the house. The police sent a K9 dog into the house and the accused was found hiding under a bed in a room. A firearm was found nearby as well as blood-stained clothes, lots of coins, R20 notes and airtime

vouchers. The accused was then arrested. The late Mr Hafamo was declared dead on the scene and the cause of death, according to the post-mortem was gunshot wounds to the limbs and upper torso.Maya received the following sentence:Count 1 – Murder – convicted of culpable homicide – eight years imprisonment.Count 2 – Robbery – 12 years imprisonmentCount 3 – Illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm – eight years imprisonment.Count 4 – Illegal possession of ammunition – three years imprison-ment.Sentence in counts 2, 3 and 4 are to be served concurrently. JD

STANDERTON - On 25 August an on duty policeman from Sakhile Police was sum-moned to Standerton Provincial Hospital. When he arrived at the hospital one of the sis-ters took him to the casualty ward where she showed him the body of a two-year-old girl

with bruises on the right side of her head, on her forehead and also on her right shoulder.

As the policeman made enquiries of who brought the child to hospital, a male suspect introduced himself and stated that he was driving a Toyota RAV and unfortunately did

not see the child. When he was asked to pro-duce his driver’s license, he stated that he did not have one.

He was then arrested for culpable homi-cide and taken to the police station for further questioning. JD

PROVINCIAL - The Mpumalanga Health department has been advised by the Budget and Finance Committee to stop employing much-needed healthcare professionals at vari-ous facilities in the province due to excessive debt in the Health Department.

This decision to freeze appointments calls into question Finance MEC, Eric Kholwane’s decision to withdraw the Health department’s curatorship after stating that the department was now financially stable - this drastic step proves that Kholwane was grossly mistaken.

The department is on record to the Health portfolio committee, in response to the 1st quarter performance report of 2015/16 that R253 million of the department’s debt has already been paid and the outstanding R104 million will be paid by 31 October 2015. Only thereafter will appointments be un-frozen.

Two-year-old girl killed

House robbed in broad daylight

Murderer convicted

Freeze in healthcare appointmentsAccording to the department’s Annual Perfor-mance Plan (APP) for this current financial year, the vacancy rate for healthcare staff is 36.7%.

The department had previously been given the approval to fill 1571 positions in this fi-nancial year, but only 692 posts had been filled as at 30 June 2015 – which is simply too slow to provide quality healthcare.

All this while the department is excluded from the province-wide moratorium on filling all vacant funded and unfunded posts.

The stark reality of R357 million worth of accruals, is devastating when one takes into consideration the number of job opportuni-ties lost. Many healthcare facilities across the province are understaffed which leads to com-munity members having to wait many hours to be seen by tired and overworked healthcare

professionals. This will only get worse as posts are now

frozen from being filled. JD

“You win or lose by the way you choose. It’s not the mountain we need to conquer; it is ourselves. It is not the mountain ahead that wears us out, but the grain of sand in our shoe,” was haar wyse woorde aan die opgewonde saal mense.

DK

NASIONAAL - Ons as Afrikaanssprekendes praat nie daaroor nie.

Indien jy ’n skenking wil maak vir hierdie projek, skakel Alisha de Lange, streekorganiseerder, Mpumalanga by 082 923 1438. Hulle het jou nodig! JD

STANDERTON - Nasiha Mahomed Omar Osman, who wrote her ITC (Initial Test of Competence) exam as well as the APC (Assessment of Professional Competence) exam, is well on her way to become a Chartered Accountant [CA(SA)]. The ITC examination is the first of two qualifying examinations and one of several prerequisites for prospective Chartered Accountants [CAs(SA)]. This examination sets standards and aims to assess candidates’ technical competence, whereas the second exam, the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC), assesses the professional competence of prospective CAs(SA). All candidates who passed their ITC examination in the second of the two 2015 sittings were congratulated and they were also urged to keep going with their studies. It was pointed out that passing the ITC is not the final requirement for qualifying as a CA(SA). Candidates can only qualify as CAs(SA) and become members of SAICA once they have successfully passed the ITC, completed the training contract requirements, completed a professional programme, and successfully passed the APC.

Nasiha did not only complete these exams successfully, but when the top ten students were announced, she was right on top, in the number one position. The top ten candidates are those who achieved a mark of at least 70% and only one candidate, Nasiha, achieved this. With the top candidate being a woman, this gives extra cause to celebrate during Woman’s Month in August. JD

Saving tips to help you move into your dream home faster.Saving for your dream home can seem like an impossible task that will take many years to achieve, but affording your dream home is easier than you think. Linda Rall, OOBA Provincial Sales Manager, discusses the essentials of saving for your dream home by sharing top tips to help stretch your Rands.Top tip one: Free up disposable income

Your monthly expenses and debt repayments should be paid on time by doing so, you’ll pay off debts quicker, and your credit score won’t be affected. Attempt to pay off your credit card in full every month, also important is to evaluate your monthly spend based on essentials and non-essentials items.Top tip two: Decide what your dream home looks like now

Carefully consider what sort of home you want in the

future, and check this against what you can afford now. Also, consider whether you want to purchase a free standing house or a sectional title unit in a complex. You need to be guided by your affordability, which you can check upfront by obtaining a prequalification certificate from a home loan expert.Top tip three: Spend less on your car

Consider downscaling and spending less on your car in order to improve your chances for home finance. It is also wise to pay off a vehicle nearing the end of its repayment term if you have a lump sum to do so as the cancellation of that monthly repayment will strengthen your chances to qualify for home finance. You may also consider a re-finance option on your existing instalment sale agreement.Top tip four: Skip the holiday; save for a house deposit

insteadIt will be worth your while to skip that holiday and put

money away towards a property purchase. Rather than going on holiday, allow yourself a few treats per month and curb the rest of your entertainment spend to save a little extra cash for a deposit.Top tip five: Consider your saving options

Investing your money with a bank is a secure method of saving which carries little to no risk to the invested capital, however the interest rates are rather moderate in comparison to other saving methods. When looking to save money for a house deposit either through a bank or with an investment plan, seek financial advice to ensure that you select an option that will best suit your individual needs. JD

Hebrews 5:9–10 9And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, 10called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,” When Jesus died and rose again, He became our High Priest. But notice that Jesus’ priesthood is “according to the order of Melchizedek”. Why the Melchizedek priesthood?

The Melchizedek priesthood gives to man (whereas the Aaronic priesthood takes from man). We see this when Melchizedek gave bread and wine to refresh a tired Abraham after his battle with the enemy kings. (Genesis 14:14–20) So if Jesus’ priesthood is according to the Melchizedek order, then it is one in which we can come boldly into His presence to receive from Him! (Hebrews 4:16) Moreover, the first word from Melchizedek’s mouth was “Blessed” — “Blessed be Abram...” (Genesis 14:19)

The Melchizedek order is just that — blessings. In other words, Jesus’ priesthood is one which blesses and never curses us! So are we conscious of Jesus our High Priest giving to us every day? Are we alert to all His blessings coming from heaven toward us on

earth? Now, it is easy for us to believe God for His blessings in creation. For example, we have no difficulty believing that the sun will rise every morning. But while we have no problems believing the work of creation, we have problems believing the work of redemption. We sometimes find it hard to believe God for healing, provision, favour, protection or restoration — blessings that Jesus died to give us. We don’t really believe that every day, the Lord will take care of us, keep our bodies healthy and provide for all our needs.

Yet, creation is fallen. It can be a blessing as well as a curse. Sometimes, a storm arises, and powerful winds and rains destroy thousands of homes and lives. Sometimes, dark clouds hide the sun and make the whole day gloomy.

My friend, we can’t put our trust in creation, but we can certainly put our trust in redemption. And unlike creation, the blessings of redemption are all good! The work of Jesus is not subject to the weather or anything else. The work of redemption is as sure as Jesus Himself. He died and rose again to be our High Priest who daily showers us with blessings!

First let me be candid. Caroline Morajane never was great material for being a mayor, but raw as she was, the ANC pushed her down our throats amidst all the protest against this choice. Her appointment as a Mayor was undemocratic and brutal as was her removal. It is unfortunate that democracy in the ANC flows from top to bottom. The voices of the branches do not count any more and the clause in the Freedom Charter that says: “The people shall govern,” died with Mandela.

But anyway our former ‘first lady’ knows this dirty game much better and she must draw comfort and strength from that. Be that as it may, it still elopes my thoughts as I attempt to get into the wisdom of the ANC to remove Morajane when they were ones who defended her during the service delivery protests. What’s the rational of getting rid of the Mayor and still keep the same Municipal Manager (MM) Mr Tshabalala who has been proven by COGTA to be incompetent, stubborn and failing the Municipality due to poor performance. The recent cases reported in the media is again sufficient proof eg the three senior traffic

officers charged and dismissed for the same offence. One is reinstated and the other officer, Mr Nkonde, instead of complying with the order to have him reinstated, the MM decided to refer the matter to the labour court for review for petty political reasons. Could these millions of rands that have been spent to settle political scores not be utilised to rehabilitate our roads and upgrade water and electrical infrastructure which has degraded beyond imagination since Tshabalala became manager.

As if this is not enough, another traffic officer who was caught taking a bribe at the licencing department was later found guilty in the Magistrate’s Court and for two years he has been sitting at home enjoying his salary with benefits. Who is paying for this wasteful expenditure? It’s us, the ratepayers. It is us the ratepayers who must now stand up and form our own organisation and elect our own leaders who will be accountable directly to them.

The ANC has failed dismally and all opposition parties including the DA are just cheque collectors and are toothless and accountable only to their membership. I

Let’s talk about proper property

Jesus’ Priesthood Never Curses Too little too late

also do not trust the words of the MM who stated that the Municipality is reversing the sale of the taxi rank. My question is what is the costs of cancelling this deal and is this without the fight from the seller and which law firm has been appointed to defend the Municipality. Why is the Municipality not calling for an independent forensic investigation into the sale of Rooikopen. Obviously there is more to this sale than what you want us to believe. – ZBS Sibanyoni

JD

Club honours athletesSTANDERTON - The Standerton Mara-thon Club held their annual prize-giving cer-emony on 26 August. Budgie Petzer, who ran the Comrades Marathon a whopping 30 times, gave the athletes a summary of what the Comrades was like many years ago, and how the clothes, especially running shoes have changed.

The athletes all received trophies according to their performances during the year, where

after they and their families were treated to a tasty meal and social interaction. Mr Peter Daniel asked everyone, and not only the ath-letes, to please attend the weekly time trials, even when you are sick, come and support your fellow runners. One of the highlights of the evening was when Attie Claassens re-ceived the trophy for finishing his tenth Com-rades Marathon and earning his permanent green number. JD
