Heaven is God's home.

He was always there.

Angels live with Him in Heaven.

They do God's will.

Heaven is my home too.

One day God wants me to live there with Him.

Heaven is better than anything we can think of.

God has given me an angel of my very own.

He is my Guardian Angel.

He wants to help me on my way to Heaven.

When I am good my angel is glad.

When I am bad my angel is sad.

My angel carries my prayers to God in Heaven.

He carries up my love.

He carries up my good acts.

He carries up my troubles.

He carries up my sorrows.

He carries up my joys.

He brings me back blessings.

Lesson 4.

ADAM A N D EVE

Long, long ago God made the world.

He made the sea, the rivers and the lakes.

He put the sun, the moon and the stars in the sky.

He made the trees, the grass, the flowers and the fruit.

He made the birds to nest in the trees.

He made the fish to live in the sea and the rivers.

He made the animals to live on the land.

He made Adam and Eve to love him.

Adam was the first man.

Eve was the first woman.

God made Adam master over all the animals.

He let Adam choose their names.

Adam and Eve were very happy.

They lived in the Garden of Paradise.

They could pick the flowers.

They could swim in the rivers.

They eat the fruit that grew on the bushes.

There was nothing to spoil their happiness.

Adam and Eve were never tired or cold or hungry,

They were never ill or in pain.

They would never die because, if they obeyed God,

He meant, one day, to take them straight to live with Him in Heaven.

God gave Adam and Eve a share of His own life.

It was this gift, which made them His children.

It was this gift which made them fit for Heaven.

Everybody and everything that God has made belong to

Him but only those who share His life are His children.

God wanted to test Adam and Eve to love Him—

They were free to please Him by obeying Him or they

could displease Him by disobeying Him.

Sad to tell they chose to disobey Him.

Adam and Eve sinned — how terrible!

We can choose whether we will please God—

This is the test, which shows whether we love Him.

Do we choose to do what pleases Him by obeying Him?

Or do we sometimes choose to disobey Him?

The Sin of Adam and Eve

THE SIN OF ADAM AND EVE

Adam and Eve had everything they could want to make them happy. They could do anything they liked except one thing, which God forbade.

By their obedience they could show their love for Him.

This was how God tested their love for him.

Alas, Adam and Eve failed.

They chose to disobey God.

Adam and Eve sinned.

Because of their sin their happy times were over.

They were turned out of their lovely home.

They had to work hard.

They were often tired and cold and hungry.

Sometimes they were ill and in pain.

Worst of all they no longer had God's life in them.

They were unfit to go to Heaven.

They were very miserable.

Too late they saw how wicked they had been.

This is how Sin came into the World

When we disobey God we sin.

Sin always leads to unhappiness.

Adam and Eve lost God's life in their souls.

They lost the right to go to Heaven.

They lost it for us too.

It was a sad day for them and it was a sad day for us.

For now we are all born without God's life in us.

If Adam and Eve had not sinned

it would be easy for us to be good.

We would not want to do wrong.

We would not like doing the things that God doesn't like.

We would never know pain or sorrow or death.

Adam and Eve were very sorry.

God knew they were sorry in their hearts.

He took pity on them and on us.

God made a promise.

He promised to send a Saviour—

Someone who would put things right.

Someone who would save us and show us how to get to

Heaven.

Lesson 6.

GOD'S P R O M I S E

Adam and Eve had children and

grand-children, and

great-grandchildren.

At last there were a great many

people in the world.

Some of them were good.

They tried to please God.

Many of them were bad.

None of them found it easy to be

good.

The good ones longed for the

coming of the Saviour.

They waited and waited for Him

to come

At last the time drew near for God to keep His

promise.

God planned to send His own Son Jesus to be

our Saviour.

Jesus would come on earth as a little baby.

A baby needs a mother.

There was no one holy enough to be the

mother of Jesus.

So God made someone on purpose.

He made Our Lady.

Her name is Mary.

Mary was very holy.

She always pleased God.

God kept all sin away from her.

God filled Mary’s soul with His own life.

The Message

THE MESSAGE

Mary's home was at Nazareth.

God sent the Angel Gabriel to her.

Gabriel said to Mary:

"Hail, full of grace

The Lord is with you:

Blessed are you among women."

Then the Angel told Mary of God's plan.

God was going to send His own Son on earth.

He was coming as a little baby.

God wanted Mary to be His mother.

The baby was to be called Jesus.

God had chosen Mary for His mother.

The angel waited for Mary's answer.

What would she say?

Mary bowed her head and said ' Yes.'

She was ready to do God's will.

When the angel said that Mary was

“full of grace” it was another

way of saying that she was full of God's life.

Am I always ready to do God's will?

Do I always say 'yes' to God?

Sometimes God wants me to make up a quarrel.

Sometimes there are jobs at home He would like

me to do.

Maybe there is someone at school with whom

God would like me to be a friend.

Perhaps I have some thing that God would like me

to share or give away.

Perhaps I have done something wrong and I

ought to own up to it.

I need God's help to make me able to do the

things that please Him.

God will always help me if I ask Him.

Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM

One day a man came to the home of Mary and Joseph.

He said to them:

“You must go to Bethlehem."

Bethlehem was a long way off.

But Our Lady did not make a fuss.

She said:

"Yes, it is God's will

We must obey

Let us go."

So, they went off.

Our Lady rode a donkey.

They took food with them.

They went on and on.

Mary was very cold and tired.

At last they got to Bethlehem.

They were glad the long journey was over.

It was bedtime.

They went to the Inn.

There was no room for them.

They went from house to house.

Everyone said: "We have no room for you."

At last some one said: "You may sleep in the stable."

Our Lady said to Saint Joseph: "Yes, let us stay here."

They went in.

That night Mary's child was born.

His name is Jesus.

Jesus is God's own Son.

God had kept His promise.

He had sent the Saviour.

The word "Jesus" means "Saviour."

THE S H E P H E R D S

It was night time.

Most people were snug in bed.

But some shepherds were out of doors.

They had to stay up to mind the sheep.

All at once they saw a light.

It came from a shining angel.

At first the shepherds were frightened.

But the angel spoke to them.

He said:

"Do not be afraid I bring good news, good news for everyone. This day, a Saviour has been born for you, the Lord Christ himself."

Soon the sky was full of angels. They sang a joyful song.

"Glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace to men of goodwill."

Then the angels left them and went back to heaven.

The shepherds said: "Let us go to Bethlehem and see for ourselves this happening which God has made known to us."

They soon got to the stable.

There they found Mary and Joseph with Jesus lying

in the manger.

The shepherds' hearts were full of joy.

They knelt down.

They bowed their heads.

They adored the Holy Child.

Then they went home praising and thanking God.

At Christmas time there is a crib in the church. This reminds me of the crib at Bethlehem. I will visit the crib. I will kneel down like the shepherds. I will tell Jesus I love Him. I will thank Him for coming to save us. I will say to Him:

"Jesus, I believe in you

I adore you.

I love you.

I trust you and

I thank you."

To remind people of this, God made a law.

The law said that the first boy in each Jewish

family was to be offered to God.

So when Jesus was about six weeks old Mary

took Him to the Temple

The priest took the Holy Baby in his arms.

He offered him to God.

Then he gave him back to his mother.

Rich peopple could give a lamb when they

offered their baby sons.

Poor people could give a pair of doves.

Mary and Saint Joseph were poor.

They offered a pair of doves.

Mary and Joseph were glad to make offereings to

God because they loved Him.

We can show our love for God by offering

everything to Him.

We can offer him everything except sin.

Every morning we can say:

“Father in Heaven, I give you today

All that I think or do or say.”

There was an old man called Simeon.

He was very holy.

He used to go to the Temple every day to pray.

He always said the same prayer

“Please God let me live long enough to see the

Saviour”

God, the Holy Spirit, promised that he should

see Jesus before he died.

When Mary and Joseph were in the Temple they

met Simeon.

The Holy Spirit told him that the child in Mary’s

arms was the Saviour.

Simeon said: “Now that I have seen the Saviour

I can die in peace.”

Then the old man became very sad.

The Holy Spirit had told him that one day Jesus

would die on the cross to save us from our

sins.

He warned Mary of the sorrows that were to

come to her.

THE WISE MEN

In a far away country there lived three wise

men.

They used to watch the stars.

One night they saw a bright new star.

They said, Look at that beautiful star. It is a sign. A king has been born. Let us follow the star. It will lead us to him.

So they got ready.

They packed up some rich presents.

They set off on their camels.

The star led them on and on.

At last they got to Jerusalem.

They went to King Herod’s palace

He was a wicked man. The wise men asked,

“Where is he that has been born, the King of the Jews? We have seen his star and have come to adore him.”

Herod said, “Go and enquire carefully for the child and when you have found him, bring me back word,so that I too may come and worship him.

Herod did not really mean to adore Jesus.

He meant to kill him.

Then the star led the Wise Men to Bethlehem.

The found the Child there with Mary His mother.

Mary’s baby was Jesus the Son of God.

The wise men knelt down and adored Him..

They gave Him their presents.

Then they went home.

But they did not go near Herod.

They did not tell him where Jesus was because they had a dream warning them to go home another way .

One night, soon after the wise men’s visit God sent an angel to Joseph.

The angel woke him and said, “Get up quickly and take the child and his mother to Egypt. Herod will soon be searching for him to kill him.”

Joseph woke Mary.

They packed up and were off before it was light.

They went all the way to Egypt.

They stayed there till an angel came to tell them that Herod was dead and it was safe for them to return.

Then they went back and they made their home at Nazareth.

FINDING IN THE TEMPLE

Jesus was twelve years old when the Holy Family went to Jerusalem.

Many other people went too.

They all went to the Temple to pray.

They stayed in Jerusalem a few days.

Then they set out for home.

They had gone a whole day’s journey when they missed Jesus.

He could not be found.

No one had seen him.

Mary and Joseph were very anxious.

They were afraid some harm had come to him.

They went back to Jerusalem.

They searched for him for three whole days.

At last they went back to the Temple.

There they found him talking to the teachers.

These teachers were astonished at his wisdom.

Mary said, “Why did you do this to us? We have been so sad and anxious?

When Jesus saw his mother he ran to her and asked her, “Didn’t you understand that I was doing my Father’s work?”

Then he put his hand in hers and they all went home together.

The home at Nazareth was a happy one.

Jesus loved his mother, Mary, and St Joseph and

obeyed them.

Love make a happy home.

Good temper makes a happy home.

Kindness makes a happy home.

Unselfishness makes a home happy

What can I do to make my home happy?

The Holy Child shows me how.

I can try to be like him.

I can try to be kind and loving.

I can try to be unselfish

I can try to do as I am told.

Saint Joseph was a carpenter, He worked hard.

Our Lady kept house, she cooked and cleaned

and sewed.

Jesus helped Mary and Joseph.

I can try to help those who love me.
