From MD’s Desk
As we approach the last
month of the calendar year,
I would like to
acknowledge that this has
been a tough year both for
the MSME market and
EFL. Shrinking sales and
bulging recovery have led
to signs of stress, in both
the industrial and the en-
trepreneurial fraternity.
In continuity to the last newsletter, I would like to thank all of you
for holding on to your morale and showing high motivation despite
the market condition. Even though revival hopes are strong, the
overall economic growth seems to be slow, considering the elec-
tions in April 2014. I am sure that our team will tread through this
positively and when we see the upsurge we will take the necessary
leap as envisioned in our Mission 2017-18.
I would like to take this opportunity to mention that, recently, after
much deliberation and discussion amongst the senior management
team and under the guidance of our Chairman and an external con-
sultant, we have frozen on EFL‟s values and the set of behaviors
that we expect each of us (including me) to uphold while conduct-
ing our day-to-day business. These values are Performance, In-
tegrity, Customer Service, Respect, Quality
(The details are available in the next page of this newsletter.)
While I have seen many such values posted across various organi-
zations, there is also a tendency to retain them only on the walls,
posters and presentations rather than imbibing them in true spirits.
I, along with the whole team, which brainstormed and arrived at
the above values, am determined to uphold them during our day-to
-day working, interaction, behavior and above all, thinking.
Respective HODs would be briefing you (/would have briefed
you) about the behaviors expected under each of these values and I
am confident that they will pass it on, in its true spirits.
Last, but not the least, as we step into the last month of 2013, I
would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved
ones, “A Very Happy and Prosperous New year”.
Let‟s be ready to make 2014 a landmark year where we, equipped
with our value systems, vision and mission, take EFL to newer
heights.
Dose of Life…. “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the
obstacles which he has overcome.”
“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of
knowledge, but rather a lack of will.”

What is 5 “S”?
The "5S" Technique was invented in Japan, and stands for Five Japa-
nese words that start with the letter „S‟, corresponding to the English
Equivalents
as mentioned below:
How to Stop Making Excuses “I don’t know how.”
“It probably wouldn’t have worked anyways.”
“I’m too busy, not to explore new avenues.”
How often do you catch yourself making excuses. Instead of doing something, you come up with ways to ex-
plain your inaction. Excuse-makers are usually seen as weak, lazy or cowardly.
I believe this is an unfair generalization.
We all make excuses once in a while. Sometimes we make excuses and other times we stop rationalizing and
take action. I‟m sure most of us can remember times when we procrastinated and wasted days before starting a
project. I‟m also sure most of us can remember times we started immediately, and finished ahead of schedule.
The differences between these two cases could be described as a difference of willpower. When you procrasti-
nated, you lacked willpower. But that isn‟t helpful. If willpower is outside your direct control, then claiming
willpower as a solution isn‟t going to work.
Instead, I believe that the answer to stop making excuses lies has two steps:
Organizing your priorities.
Breaking large, uncomfortable steps into manageable pieces.
