4) How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
Audacity I used audacity for both the advert and “Mrs
Leyland” speech.Audacity worked well as it allowed me try as
many different versions of both the advert and the speech.
I didn’t use it as much as I did in my AS project but it was important to helping me achieve the best form audio for the “not on location” segments.
PhotoshopWith Photoshop I used the photo of me and used the gradient tool to get a shading over it. This was to give a sense of glare, but at the beginning it looked misty and ghost-like, so I had to clean up the gradients and get them the way I wanted them.
Photoshop - ContinuedAfter tweaking with the gradients for a few minutes, I managed to get the shadowed look I wanted, like the screen was glaring off and illuminating my face. This was the groundwork I needed so I could change the colour contrast.
Photoshop - ContinuedRight away I knew I needed to make the picture darker, more isolated and alone. This started by trying to find the right colour that gave the impression I required. After trying many different colours I decided blue would give the right contrast and then went ahead to try and find the right strength of colour, finally settling on around a 24% opacity. This over all was simple, but affective way of altering the photo.
Premier ProPremier Pro was the best way of achieving a good post-production quality. It allowed me to experiment with the order of the sequence, the placement of the case photos, interviews, videos etc. I used the same close-up shot I used for my poster for the credits so it would link the ancillary texts with the main project.
Premier Pro - ContinuedWith the “Mrs Leyland” interview I decided that I needed to hide her identity. This was mainly done by adjusting the brightness to make the picture darker. I lowered the darkness to around -30 and it gave the silhouetted effect I wanted.
Premier Pro - ContinuedI also used Premier Pro to edit my radio advert. Not many effects, apart from a fade in and out, were used because I wanted it to be short and punchy. I used the soundtrack I used throughout the media project to add more effect and make it seem more like a radio project. The same song also, I felt, helped the radio link with the main project, much in the same way using the “eyes” photo for the credits and the poster.
YouTubeYouTube was a major help for research and case material. It gave me a great incite into games that we can not get over here, as well as viewing games that I wouldn’t be able to play first hand
