4-H County Council
The 4-H County Council meets once a month to help plan events
for the county and gain some leadership skills.
One of the events the 4-H County Council helps out at is the
Trivia Night for Marshall County 4-H Foundation, which took
place on Saturday, September 19. The event was a hit!
The October 4-H County Council meeting will take place Sunday,
October 4 beginning at 5 PM at the Extension office. Anyone
grades 7-12 interested in joining should attend the meeting. We
will be decorating pumpkins, please bring anything to decorate
them! (Pumpkins provided)
Each month there is a fun activity followed by a business meeting
to discuss County events, fundraisers, citizenship projects, and
much more!

Central Iowa Fair Office Manager/Fair Planner Position
The Central Iowa Fair board is accepting applicants for the Office Manager/Fair Planner position. This position will be
a permanently part-time position with approximately 25 hours per week year-round. If you are interested in the posi-
tion please send your resume to the Central Iowa Fair board at 1308 West Olive Street, Marshalltown. Questions may

4-H Re-enrollment
MARSHALL COUNTY EVENTS
We’re in full swing for the new 4-H year! 4-H re-enrollment will be
on 4hOnline again this year which can be done at your home or
in our office.
To re-enroll, go to the 4hOnline website, https://
iowa.4honline.com/Login.aspx?

address and password to login.
This is where 4-H and Clover Kids re-enroll.
If your Clover Kid is now the age to be in 4-H, make sure to
change their club from the Clover Kid group to the 4-H club.
Be sure to update all health information for the current time and
check all of the appropriate releases (driving, photo, etc.).
Enrollment will be $20 before November 15 and $30 after that
date. The $10 early discount is due to the sponsorship from the
Marshall County 4-H Foundation and the Marshall County Farm
Bureau.

Citizenship Washington Focus
Looking for an experience of a lifetime? Look no further than the
Citizenship Washington Focus trip where you as a 9th-12th
grader can travel by charter bus to visit Washington D.C. and the
National 4-H Center. Experience leadership and citizenship on a
higher level with this epic opportunity on June 10-18, 2016.
Trip highlights include the Flight 93 Museum, Gettysburg
Battlefield, Capitol Hill, Smithsonian Museum, Mount Vernon and
the Holocaust Museum. Youth will also meet with the Iowa
Congressional and Senate delegations to discuss legislative
issues. Besides tours and workshops, 4-H'ers will have time for
socializing and meeting new friends!
There is a scholarship available through the Marshall
County 4-H Foundation to attend CWF!
Cost of the trip is $1,570. This includes lodging, transportation,
tour site admissions and most meals. Registration and a $510
deposit will be required to secure a spot. Space is limited.
Registration deadline is January 4, 2016. To learn more about

Awards Ceremony will begin at 2 PM and
will recognize 4-H’ers and Clover Kids
who turned in a record book, club leaders,
and donors to the 4-H program.
Potluck dinner for all 4-H families begins
at 1 PM. Bring a covered dish and your
families dinnerware. Drinks will be
furnished.
Please bring a dessert to share following
the awards ceremony.

Community Center.

4-H Horse Project News Grooming Workshop
When: Saturday, October 24 at 10 AM
Where: Erin’s House, 2144 Marsh Ave, Unit Q, Marshalltown
Refreshments provided, bring a lawn chair. If you would like to bring
your horse, let Erin know. There will be 3 there for demonstration.
Directions: From W Main St: South on Hwy 330 about 3/4 mile.
From Marshalltown Blvd: North of the railroad tracks on Hwy 330
about 3/4 mile. Look for mile marker 330. Gravel line headed east.

Let’s see how much 4-H information the Marshall County 4-H’ers know! Each month we will be doing some 4-H trivia
in the newsletter. The top 2 individuals that answer the most questions correct will get to pick a goodie out of our “4-H
Bag of Goodies!” You have until Friday, October 16 to email, call, or stop in the office and give Emily your answers to
try to win. The next month we will include the correct answers, and new questions. Please, do not look up the
answers! Test your knowledge and have a little fun!

support 4-H?
National 4-H Council is now accepting applications for the annual
Youth in Action Awards to be presented at the seventh annual
Legacy Awards in Washington, D.C. on April 12, 2016.
As one of the highest honors achieved, the 2016 awards have
expanded to honor one remarkable 4-H’er within each pillar area:
Agriculture and Animal Sciences; Citizenship; Healthy Living; and
STEM.
As part of this great honor, each of the four Youth in Action Award
pillar winners will receive:
Scholarship: A $5,000 scholarship for higher education.
Public Recognition: An all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C.
to be recognized at Council's Legacy Awards on April 12, 2016.
Spokesperson Opportunities: Serve as the National Youth
Spokesperson for their recognized pillar area.
County Recognition: An additional $5,000 grant will be made to
each of the awardees’ 4-H County.
In addition, one overall national Youth in Action Award 2016
honoree will be selected from the four pillar winners and will
receive an additional $5,000 scholarship.
Applications are due Monday, November 30 by 11:59 PM.
