9:30h Towards DDO - Measuring ROIAccording to the latest market studies conducted in 2017, the adoption of Big Data techniques worldwide has reached 53%.
There is currently no clearly defined methodology or specific action protocol to become a company with data as one of its main assets.
That is why this session aims to discuss several cases of organizations that have set out on this path and will share their experiences on the organizational changes they have had to promote, their incorporation of new talent and necessary skills, their prioritization of data-based initiatives and their evaluation of the expected economic return on the planned investments.

11:30h Lessons learnt from successful applicationsAccording to a study conducted by Boston Consulting Group and MIT, 87% of companies that have failed to adopt data analytics have done so due to the lack of definition of a clear entrepreneurial and business application to be tackled with data analytics techniques.
Through different companies’ presentation of various applications, this session will enter into details into how each has been implemented: from a management and organisation perspective (which points have been the most critical, how the challenge was faced, what teams have been trained, how the ROI was estimated) and a technological perspective (what solutions have given good results, what the main technical difficulties have been).

13:00h Data sharing for common goodUsing and exploiting data is not just a powerful tool for companies. The information resulting from the analysis of digital and open data provide a new way of understanding and addressing a wide range of social, environmental and urban problems. In this session, we will provide specific initiatives on how Big Data may help to improve society.

Krishna Gummadi is the Head of the Networked Systems research group at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS) and a Professor at the University of Saarland. He received his Ph.D. (2005) and B.Tech. (2000) degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Washington and the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, respectively.

9:45h Effective technology stacksWhen we talk about Big Data, the computer infrastructure and architecture to use is undoubtedly one of the most critical points, especially if the volume of data or latency is very high or if data from very heterogenous sources are available.
In this sesson, structured in presentation format, several companies will discuss their choice when configuring the most efficient tech stack, weighing the pros and cons of their decisions, the characteristics of their data (volume, speed and heterogeneity) and the results of those tests and configurations that have not given satisfactory results.

12:00h Explainable AIThe main problem of neural networks and their use in what is now called “deep learning” is that it is very difficult to explain why I make a certain decision, creating real black boxes from the perspective of their use. However, for many applications where there are people involved, we must be able to explain the decision, for example to avoid gender or racial biases that may exist in training data or in the design of the model itself.
This presentation will explain how this problem is being tackled and the compromises that we have to accept to achieve quality results that we can also explain

12:30h Cool data science exposedA good algorithm can help any business to save costs or significantly boost revenue. Therefore, the suitability of the algorithm designed to model a problem is essential and virtually unambiguously determines the benefits and return on the investment generated by that methodology.
This session will show us the latest algorithmic trends by discussing four different cases.

WORKSHOP: Face recognition with tensorflow
This presentation will show us an example of a practical application of Deep Learning to solve the problem of incrementally learning people’s identities using Google’s TensorFlow software library. This application had been implemented as part of a project to bestow an android with intelligence, thereby enabling it to participate in therapies for patients with Alzheimer’s.
This workshop is in parallel to the auditorium sessions.
