of the masterplan is designed to add utility to the

educational and environmental activities of the Centre and its staff

and at the same time open the “hives of activity” to both the local Nudgee Beach

residents and the wider community by creating welcoming and active

spaces for all ages and levels of engagement.

this project proposes a design masterplan which will integrate the

disconnected and under-utilised spaces of the Nudgee Beach Environmental Education

Centre by creating interconnected “hives of activity” both within and

beyond the political boundaries of the NBEEC site.

HIVES OF ACTIVITY

Given the 20 year strategy for the implementation of the

design elements of the masterplan, the impacts of climate change -

especially changing water movements and levels and increasing temperatures- have

been key considerations to ensure the long-term environmental sustainability of the site. In addition, the long-term social and economic sustainability of the

site can be achieved as the design elements increase its usability, functionality and

safety. Consequently, this masterplan encourages greater accessibility to,

and awareness of the Centre.COMMUNITY
