MESSAGE FROM THE MBA- HRD COORDINATOR
INDUCTION WEEK“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” —Lao Tzu
The new batch kick-started their journey with a week long induction program. With students coming from diverse
educational and geographical backgrounds, it was important to ensure that every student is brought to a common
ground from where they are able to grow together, hand in hand. Students got a glimpse of how their future MBA
journey is going to be like. The activities involved peer to peer interaction, individual presentations, team building
exercises, knowledge based assignments etc.
GUEST LECTURES To provide an early exposure to the various
industry practices, the guest lectures for the new
batch of MBA HR were scheduled right from the very
first day. The objective was to ensure that before
students start gaining theoretical knowledge, they
get various insights of the HR industry from our
distinguished alumni making that theoretical
knowledge much more relevant. Alumni bring with
them the wealth of insights on professional and
individual fronts and we are ever so grateful to have
alumni who return to share their thoughts with us.

“You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will
continue the learning process as long as he lives.“ ~Clay P. Bedford
KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THE GUEST LECTURES
Mr Avinash Kohli emphasised on some key habits students need to keep in mind. Mr Kohli told
students to work hard and make all the mistakes in their two years of MBA, learning as much as
they can. Students must always stay alert and proactive at work. They should delink motivation
from performance, embrace the challenges and learn to be courageous. Mr Kohli emphasised on
the need of having a long term plan in life and not getting tempted by any short term benefits.
And finally, he reminded us to always be humble no matter how much success we achieve.
Mr Ayan Majumdar talked about the Rise of Digital Learning Space and how the digitisation has
created an impact on the education sector of the world. He further stressed upon how the modern
organizations should be constantly evolving themselves with changing times and technologies
and how HR is playing a key role in making that happen. Then sharing his industry experience right
from the time he started, Mr Ayan Majumdar threw light on key qualities an HR manager should
possess in today’s modern technology driven era.
Mr Kushal Dubey briefed the students about various verticals of HR giving students a glimpse of
future career options they will be having as HR managers. Mr Dubey also talked about how it is
very important for the students to keep themselves prepared for the future challenges by being
actively involved in the various college activities which act as a simulation for the daily activities
which will actually be experienced by the students in an organisation during their jobs.
Ms Vijayanti Margassery told the students that the modern day HR needs to be adaptable to the
changing times. Only then it can be the driver of the change in the organization. She also
emphasised on some other important skills an HR professional needs including the ability to
build a storyboard and listening to things which are not told directly. Ms Vijayanti also talked
about The Gallup Employee Engagement Survey and its importance for the employers and the
role of HR in building trust between two entities for successful change management.
Mr Nilanjan Mukherjee started the session by introducing a very interesting concept of how we
should be relearning the alphabets “ABCDEFG”, in order to become well-rounded professionals and
better individuals at the personal plane.
"G- Goal, F- Focus, E- Emotion, D- Decision, C- Character B- Belief and A- Action".
Dr. Mukherjee stressed vehemently on these seven pillars of a success. As students who have
embarked upon the journey of becoming HR professionals, it was an extremely enlightening
experience to hear Dr. Mukherjee explain each trait with interesting and relevant examples.
Mr. Anand Mohan Mishra started off the session urging to every student to become a job creator
rather than resorting to being a job seeker only. Something as simple as starting one’s own NGO
while still in college can go a long way to create more job options at a later stage and also help
give back to the society from which each of us have been reaping benefits till date. As budding
HR professionals, we are meant to deal with human capital within the society and convert them
into effective capital. Entrepreneurship is completely in line with this objective of HR
management and development.
TESTIMONIALS BY 2019 BATCHDSE...The dream turned live on 20th July. Stepping into MBA-HRD, I was already feeling proud.
Subsequently, the vision and excellence of the student driven course set my benchmarks at an even
higher level. Every passing day in campus makes me crave for more and more confidence, growth,
knowledge and money.
-Ronak Agarwalla, MBA-HRD ‘19
Getting admission in DSE has been dream come true. Here I get endless opportunities for my holistic
development through presentations, GDs, role plays and other fun activities. Plus the faculty is very
experienced too. The campus is full of life as you can find students from every field enjoying a tea or
masala coke from JP tea stall. But my favourite place is the Ratan Tata Library, the ultimate haven for
students who love books and serenity!
-Sonali Rai, MBA-HRD ‘19
Coming straight to DSE after taking a gap year brought excitement and enthusiasm, but the lack of
punctuality and teamwork really had me worried. The induction week at DSE couldn’t have been
organized any better as it equipped me for the life ahead and made me used to the tight deadlines,
building confidence and helped me in realizing the area which needed improvement.
-Devang Singh, MBA-HRD ‘19
It was the gates of DSE which I entered finally as a student of MBA HRD Department of Commerce on
20th July’17. It was a hearty welcoming new journey for me. Listening to the welcome speeches of
various faculty members and Prof. Kavita Sharma (HOD) at the orientation was heart-warming,
motivating and it gave me a chance to appreciate myself and everyone who has helped me in my
journey to DSE. The 6 days Induction process which started on 21st July helped me in understanding
about the course and prepared for my future.
-P. Neni Kennedy, MBA-HRD ‘19
20th July ’17, amidst the drizzle with big dreams and full of excitement, I made my way inside the calm and serene
campus. Never had I expected that the hustle of management world will reside in the lap of such a poised environment.
The more I came to know about the college, the more I felt blessed to be a part of one of the finest HR management
courses in the country. During the ice breaking session, I came to know about my fellow classmates who were from a
diverse background. Writers, National level swimmers, Zonal Cricket players, National Level Basketball players, NGO
workers, Drummers, Guitarists, Software developers, Entrepreneurs, this was the kind of crowd in between whom I was
sitting with mesmerized eyes looking at the richness and diversity of my fellow batch mates.
The best part of the MBA program here at DSE is its peer to peer learning experience thanks to a
small, closely knit batch of students. The curriculum itself has a lot to offer from simple functions of
management to HR analytics. The pedagogy is in sync with the latest trend in the HR industry and
framed in such a manner that the students are industry ready as soon as they are out of the campus.
Ratan Tata Library is one of the most sought out places for students not just from DSE but from all
other DU colleges as well. It has a large and diverse range of books offering all the required learning
material to the students for their study and research purposes. Any student can easily track a book by simply entering
the author’s name or the book’s name in the computer room.
Coming to my favourite place in the college, JP Tea stall, the place where we laugh, we cry and share the stress of
deadlines for various assignment submissions. It all vanishes with just one sip of masala coke.
Came here as a pupa, wish to fly out as a radiant butterfly. Although it has been just one month, it still feels like Day one.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCES - 2018 BATCH
From private jet trips to special brunch on private ships, Reliance Summer is a surreal
experience. My internship has been a complete departure from regular Human Resources into
an entirely different world of Industrial Relations and Site Human Resources. I was posted at
the Petrochemicals Manufacturing Division of Reliance Industries Limited in Hazira - located 20
km from Surat, Gujarat. I had the privilege of being mentored by Head of the HR Department,
HMD, who introduced me to my project, titled 'To develop a comprehensive HR Analytics
Framework for Hazira Manufacturing Division in collaboration with the Corporate Analytics
Team.' I was guided at every step of my journey and was a part of meetings with heads of
petrochemical plants, visits to the production areas, Plant People Councils, Women Council
Meetings. Reliance Summer is a great learning platform for understanding the ground level
work and experiencing the magnanimity.

I worked on five projects while interning at Yodlee, which provided me with an opportunity
to think on the strategic front impacting the business while also providing me with an
opportunity to work at the grassroot level. My projects were strategically important to the
business since they reached out to various stakeholders at differing levels. What I liked the
most about Yodlee is its open culture and how the company allows its employees the
flexibility to set their own terms without compromising on performance. The two months I
spent there were exceptional and extremely fulfilling.

I had the opportunity to intern with Deloitte. I was part of the team that was responsible for
developing the training material for the client with the aim to get the client stakeholders
ready for the digital transformation in their organization. During my internship there were
times when I felt like I bit off more than I could chew, but then I learned to prioritize my tasks,
and more importantly learned to say ‘no’ to new tasks until I’ve completed what I had at
hand- something that was appreciated at my organization. This internship was supposed to
tell me what it would feel like to be a full-time employee, and it did just that. At Deloitte, you
are treated as a full-time employee, and you will be assigned the same work as a full-time
employee. Moreover, to learn, and to seek guidance, all you need to do is swivel you chair
around. You think the Universe is flat? My organization is flatter! Adarsh Dadala

I interned with Deloitte in the Human Capital Service line. I specifically worked for the
Organization Transformation & Talent (OT&T) service area. The culture of the company is great
and it offers a lot of opportunities for the interns to learn. The firm takes great efforts in the on-
boarding of the interns. We had multiple opportunities to interact and connect with fellow
practitioners. The summer internship was a great learning opportunity. Being a fresher I learnt
a lot as I was actively encouraged to take ownership of my work and ask questions. One thing
that really stands out for Deloitte is its open culture. It’s typically a very flat organization. In
addition, I was allotted a Counsellor for the entire duration of my internship and an onboarding
team who would address any personal or professional difficulties/issues I happened to face. I
was encouraged to provide feedback and suggestions from time to time. To sum it up I would
like to quote a very popular saying, prevalent in the firm – ‘You Own Your Career at Deloitte’.

FUTURE ACTIVITIES @ DSE
The biggest event at MBA HRD and IB, Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, the Convention is a
platform which sees Thought Leaders & Management Gurus and members of the academia join the students in
brainstorming on contemporary & future business trends and issues.
It is a platform that brings together some of the brightest minds in the industry and the academic world to discuss
an assortment of issues from the world of business and economics.
DON'T LIVE THE SAME YEAR 75 TIMES AND CALL IT A LIFE ! They say change is the only constant. It's funny how we keep on living our lives doing almost the same things everyday
saying that’s how things are meant to be. We believe that we have a specific role to be played in this play of society and
we do act quite well. We have an image of ourselves in our mind which we believe that society will find sane or acceptable
and we make sure that there is no deviation from it.
But doesn’t having such an image of who we are or an idea of how we are supposed to behave or
act in front of people the biggest barrier in between us and our evolution as a person. How can we
expect ourselves to grow if we keep on doing the same things the same way everyday? We are not
robots, custom-designed to perform specific tasks constantly without any question or variation.
The fear of the judgmental society often keeps us from getting out of our comfort zones. The truth
is that whoever criticizes you or taunts you when you go out of the box and do something
amazingly unique or something which you aren’t expected to do, that person is actually just
jealous of the fact that you have the guts in you to break the stereotype in which they are still
imprisoned. I wonder how many times we break our own heart by not listening to it and believing
in what the society tells us.
One of my favourite quotes by Robin Sharma always inspires me to always listen to what my heart says and look for
something different to do everyday. “Don't live the same year 75 times and call it a life.”So let us all promise ourselves to
kill the monster of monotony in our lives and break free. As Abraham Lincoln quoted, “In the end, it’s not the years in your
life that count, it’s the life in your years”.
