forms of rationality, One is more rulebased or duty driven. The logic of appropriateness. And the other is kind of, the logic ofconsequence, which is means-endrationality.They're just distinctive forms of, ofrationality, and they've kind of persistedfor hundreds of years.Back to Immanuel Kant, even and, andpeople like Max Weber talk about them, anda, a variety of people.I think you need to think of those as twoclasses of.Reasoning.And that we can see a lot of ourorganizational theories as following underthose classes. So obviously the rational actor model isgoing to fall under the logic ofconsequence. And the organizational process model willbe following, falling under the logic ofappropriateness.

And there was a question that was directlyrelated to this that I thought was quiteinsightful. It was about, it was [inaudible] questionabout can superstition influence decisionmaking and. This idea was that beliefs in certain. The belief that certain times were betterfor a decision to be made than others. And, I don't, I don't know fully how toanswer this.In some ways, it's, it's like superstitionis a logic of appropriateness.

But in others, it, it might be outside inthat it's a non rational or irrational, means of acting. And by this, I do wanna accentuate that.Though appropriateness and consequence arereally rational theories of deciding.Whereas I, I feel like there is room inorganizations for irrational andnon-rational kind of behaviors, and socialtheorists have long talked about this as abasis of action that, that can occur. And by non rational, it means that theappropriate.

It's neither appropriate nor valued interms of its means to an end. It's, it's acted upon irrationally, and Ithink there are, there are cases likethat.Whether superstition follows that it's notclear to me fully, but I think it'ssomething to consider as we go forward.
