InfecHous  Diseases  Any  disease  caused  by  the  spread  or  growth  of  pathogens  (bacteria  and  viruses)  in  a  host.  They  are  some+mes  contagious.

Scenario  1:  Direct  Contact  Transmission  Some  infec+ous  diseases  are  spread  through  DIRECT  CONTACT  with  a  bacteria  or  virus.    Examples:  •  Infected  food  or  water  like  E.  coli  •  Bite  from  infected  insect  like  malaria  or  Lyme  disease

Scenario  1:  Contact  Transmission  As  a  class,  we  will  MODEL  an  infec+ous  disease  that  is  spread  through  direct  contact.      1  person  will  represent  the  PATHOGEN,  and  they  will  “infect”  other  students  by  placing  a  white  s+cker  on  their  hand.

Scenario  2:  “Host  to  Host”  Transmission  Some  infec+ous  diseases  are  spread  indirectly  from  one  person  who  is  infected  to  other  people  that  they  come  into  contact  with.    Examples:  •  Through  “droplets”  like  the  flu  •  Exchange  of  bodily  fluids  like  STDs
